Should the GOP be "more like Trump" or more like "the average GOP member of Congress"? A Rasmussen survey conducted a week ago found: 72% of "likely Republican voters" think the GOP should be more like Trump. 24% of "likely Republican voters" think the GOP should be more like the average GOP member of Congress 40% of "all likely voters" think the GOP should be more like Trump. 45% of "all likely voters" think the GOP should be more like the average GOP member of Congress Should the Republicans look for a fresh face in 2024? 52% of Republicans say yes, look for a fresh face. (Six years ago 60% of Republicans wanted a fresh face.) 63% of Democrats and "unaffiliated voters" say yes, look for a fresh face. So what do YOU think? I'm an Independent, so I'd fall in the "unaffiliated voters" category. I like a lot of what Trump did, but I wasn't always a fan of how he did it. (But I also realize the nearly insurmountable resistance he faced, and sometimes you have to face fire with fire.) Trump will be 78 in 2024. Trump started a movement and the country should have immeasurable gratitude for what he accomplished, but in 2024 I think he might be better as an influencer than as a direct candidate. Who knows though, he can still rock a rally and he's still got a lot of support! But aging four years in your 70's isn't like aging four years in my 40's.... Republicans should run a Trump/Trump ticket in 2024 (Don Jr. and Ivanka) cause it's just so completely ****ed up that they might win. We really, really need some new political parties in this country.
you really have to have the vote about 6 months after Trump is out of office, too many right now vote for support of Trump rather then what they really believe
I want a Republican with Trump's attitude... He's like a doctor who tells you what you need to hear but don't want to hear. Hell, I'd vote a Democrat who acted like that if you could find one that wouldn't bow to the radical left Twitter army. The problem is, the only moderates now are Republicans with liberal social views (like myself). Moderate democrats don't exist because Democrats won't allow them to. You see how mad they got when politicians from different parties shared a hug? A hug... They were livid.
The Republicans and Democrats have become the Hatfields and McCoys - they will literally burn down the country if they thought it would get them a few more votes. You couldn't pay me enough to join either of their twisted clubs. Vote the candidate - not the party.
I don't have a problem with trump not bowing to political correctness. I would vote for a brash, unapologetic candidate as long as they 1. are informed 2. are not childish 3. has the ability to show decorum 4. Understands that tariffs are harmful Unfortunately trump doesn't check any of these boxes and he's an arrogant sonofabitch to boot. We can do better.
My thought is that any group that follows the Trump model long term isn't a political party and won't have long term success....
Without hate, fear and its endless racism the Democratic Party's got nothing - other than being the servants and Nazi enforcers for the richest international corporations and people on earth.
That the GOP wants to turn more towards trumpism reassures me enormously. It's the best way to keep a Democrat in the White House for many, many years to come. Trupism rejects self-criticism. All those who make the slightest criticism of the leader's ideas are publicly insulted, called Rino, traitors and anti-Americans. Its followers believe that isolationism, protectionism and excessive nationalism are the solution to the problems facing the US in the 21st century. Except that this ideology is overwhelmingly rejected by the majority of the electorate. So I hope that Republicans don't reinvent themselves and repeat the same mistakes by keeping Trump as close to them as possible.
Only a matter of time before a left-wing version of Trump appears and gains national prominence. Then we can all go back and forth about whose version of Trump is better.
You prove my point. As I said, trumpists are incapable of the slightest self-criticism. It's not their ideology that's stinks, it's the rest of the voters who want to destroy the country. Keep going, you're on the right track.
Usually once you've gotten a job and started paying taxes the brainwashing will wear off. I agree with the part I bolded. Vote the candidate and not the party. If we had ballots with no political affiliations listed for candidates, probably half of the people voting would be lost.
The republican party has no choice but to look for another face. Trump is unlikely to run in 2024 and if he did he would be unlikely to beat Harris.
If you want change, a president is not the person who can effect change. You need to change the entirety of congress for that to truly happen. And you cannot do that until we get money out of politics. Trump is just a face for a cause. And the cause he championed was "screw the other side". This nation has never been more divided, except for the civil war. Trumps ideas that "business" is the savior of the free world, and should be unfettered by government regulation, are beyond a recipe for disaster. Trump is a con man, and his con was to claim to be "the working classes billionaire". To tell you he was working for you, when in reality he was working for himself, and for his friends. Trump is the textbook definition of a narcissist. Yes, we need a change in this country. But we can NEVER achieve that change if we keep looking to politicians to make that change. Politicians are the cause, not a cure. They cannot be that cure if they are beholden to the disease (big business). There is a balance between free market capitalism, and what we have today with our politicians beholden to their corporate donors. You want to fix the problem, lets have taxpayer funded campaigns. Everyone gets the same amount of money, and they are then not allowed to take any corporate donations....EVER. All I need to prove this is the last "stimulus that passed". $300 billion for the people......$700 billion for corporate donors ...
I think you're far too optimistic. If it hadn't been for the pandemic, Trump would very possibly have won.
Let me fix this misconception..... The GOP endorses, men grabbing womens pussys, the believe that heroes dont get captured, they dont care that children are separated from their family's, dont care that they give women un-asked for sterilization, Mexicans are drug dealers, rapists, and guess some may be fine people, that their is good people amongst Nazis, and white supremacists, there is no family values, you do not believe in fiscal conservatism!...dont even believe in democratic elections ANYMORE! Thats just shooting from the hip.....You sold your soles to a conman who lies continuously! You own every bit....Im sorry that is not only what Democrats see, watch, listened and heard from all your excuses while sticking up for Donald Trump! The whole world watched as you sold everything you ever "said"you belived in.... No hype, no lies, just in your face truths....again.... YOU OWN IT! We will never forget
I think there is a good chance of doing what Teddy Roosevelt did in 1912. Failing to get the Republican nomination, he'll run as a third party, thus dividing the party and assuring a Democratic victory. Run you old Bull Moose run. Come on Donald complete what you started. Screw the wretched Republican party all the way into ground so far they never come back. Back in the day the Republicans came roaring back to give us Warren G. Harding and Calvin Coolidge; then Herbert Hoover.
