A New Poll Looks Mighty Grim for Democrats

    It’s just one poll from one polling outlet (albeit one given an A+ ratingfor accuracy and sound methodology by FiveThirtyEight). But for Democrats already concerned about the love shown the president in snap polls following last night’s State of the Union address, the first 2018 national survey from Monmouth University lands like a punch in the mouth.

    Compared to its December poll, the new results (taken from interviews between January 28 and January 30) show big gains for both Trump and his party among registered voters. His December job approval rating, at 32 percent, was his lowest since taking office, according to Monmouth’s temperature readings. Now it has bounced up to 42 percent. Similarly, in December the GOP tax bill was notably unpopular, with 26 percent approving of it and 47 percent disapproving. Now opinions on the bill, after lots of hype about bonuses and cuts in tax withholding, are dead even at 44/44.

    Worst of all for Dems, a 15-point advantage in the generic congressional ballot in December (51/36) is now down to two points (47/45). This equals the smallest Democratic advantage in any poll since the beginning of the current election cycle.

    Still a long ways to go, but if the FISA abuse memo is also tied to the democrats they might as well turn out the lights.

    Yep, one poll that is the exception that proves the rule for now: Americans don't trust Trump.

    Democrats will always have CNN, WaPo and the NYT polls to prove they will win the next elections by a landslide - and to endless start a new thread with each one to give each other likes and gloat over their unstoppable landslide victories.

    Trump's poll numbers would be a lot better if we didn't have a extremely hateful media constantly telling their sheep Trump is a racist, he's hates brown people, he's this, that and the other thing. They even sold his tax cuts as being a bad thing and his immigration policy as white supremacist.

    it Trump would stop going on his hate filled Twitter tantrums, maybe the media would not have as much negative stories to report on him

    any other President would never get away with the things this President has done and sadly will continue to do

    can you imagine if Obama attack gold star families, one while visiting the casket of her loved one.... crazy

    And this 'great economy' has only two things going for it...the U-3 (which Trump called bogus) and the equity markets (which Trump called a 'big, fat' ugly bubble).

    But despite these good numbers...Trump's poll numbers still stink.


    Trumpbots don't get it, because they idolize Trump. Most of America thinks he is a joke. They did not know it until after he took office.

    It does not matter what happens to the economy between now and 2020. It could skyrocket...it does not matter. Americans think Trump is a joke, they will NEVER re-elect him.

    A lot of mexicans are rapists, not only to they rape and kidnap women in this country, they rape, rob and sometimes murder the people they're smuggling up from Guatemala. You guys said it yourselves, Obama was the Deporter-in-Chief, who do you think he was deporting, priests?

    For the folks who get their information from something a little more in-depth than a mainstream media sound bite, they know the actual context of those two comments, and voila the manufactured outrage is gone.

    Nothing is stopping anyone from quoting them in context.

    Just so we're clear, I do not believe Trump is a racist, a Nazi sympathizer or a White Supremacist. I just think he's a doddering old man who likes to tweet every morning while he's taking a dump.

    Yes U3 can be deceiving. It can go down because the participation rate goes down.

    In 2017 the black participation rate has been pretty consistent. So U3 is a perfectly valid measure.

    So you know the context of those two quotes, and you don't believe Trump is a racist or a Nazi sympathizer or a white supremacist, but you keep pushing that propagandized and out-of-context narrative..... may I ask why, or what you could possibly hope to achieve?
