    yeah
And I suspect that he would have said his observation was not in iron clad rule applicable to all situations
I think his quote speaks for itself

remember, Trump told us why a President would start a war with Iran on an election year

    You said:
Bonespurs doesn't seem to consider the potential consequences of his actions.
Given your admitted ignorance of the particulars, how can you say this with any degree of acumen?

Well the answer is easy, leave and they won't be any to attack. Doyou think we are making progress with them after 16 years?
Do you think they would look upon the US pulling out of the Mideast entirely with favor. I do. It is much easier to convince someone of your honesty when you don't have 100,000 soldiers and sailors in the Mideast.

It's the basis for "Speak softly and carry a big stick".
    -That- was actual foreign policy.

It worked just fine for them, until 6-22-41.

these are Trump words, not mine - they apply more today than they did back then

let's both hope a war is not started

It also implies that you deploy the big stick with restraint

I can’t imagine showing any more restraint with Iran. We should have taken him out years ago. If you carry the stick but are afraid to use it, no one is going to be afraid of that stick anymore, and will know you are just a ***********.

If Iran retaliates, the military already has set targets to strike. They will advise, ask permission and President Trump will grant that permission. The 3 targets will will hurt Iran significantly but if my estimations are correct, Iran will get a lot of support from Democrat lawmakers here in the US. Pelosi, Schumer and others will openly take the side of the Iranians no matter what happens in this conflict. It will just prove once again that no matter what action (or inaction) President Trump takes, he will face open opposition that will hurt American efforts.

I think Iran needs a regime change. I have been involved in one way or another since the entire conflict started in 1979. Thanks to Obama, Iran is stronger and more capable now, than they ever were. Kill off the leadership and return Iran to the people and away from the religious zealots that are killing that nation. An internal Iranian Civil War would mean they aren't funding terrorism around the world anymore.

No it doesn't. It means actions speak louder than words.

I don't believe Trump wants a war with Iran. What has happened so far is a statement, but not a war. There may be more action between the U.S. and Iran, but the ball is in Iran's court right now. Nothing more will happen unless Iran does something first.

it is confusing to hear, on one hand, how we want fewer wars...
And on the other hand how we have to make people fear us

a rather surprising point of view..

that said, it is not particularly accurate. The fact is that That the German was just in the process of recovery after the military limitations placed upon them after WWI. hitler did not even come to power until the 1931-33 time frame... even up to 1938 Germany was not considered an imposing military threat
... frankly, it was not until blitzkrieg was unleashed that Germany became feared.... so they were feared for about 4 years... 39-43.... at which point it was clear that their end, however bloody, was a matter of time.... 2 years.

so, your point.... the Nazis were terrifying for 4 years... and THAT is your model for successful us policy

That time a marine general led a fictional Iranian Army Against The U.s Military and Won

Vietnam should have taught us That superior technology, superior logistics and Control of the Skies dosen't mean squat.

I think most neocons and advocates for war forget that Saddam's Army gave up in operation Iraq freedom. That war was a war against insurgency. The movie red dawn would be a good example of what an insurgency actual is.

So why are we not invading Saudi Arabia ? That is where the 9/11 hijackers came from , where the attacks were planned out as well as funded.

From what I understand it's to bolster security for the embassy and nearby areas that might come under attack. Just a precautionary measure.
