Due to their less competitive admission and graduation requirements. Someone who has a lower bar to jump is by definition less competitive.

What was the unfair advantage you speak of? The best qualified jobs went to the best candidates as did the seats in the universities. White males did not have those places reserved for them. Nor were all Blacks poor back in the day. Your view of history seems skewed to me.

They were an answer to your question concerning countries that proclaimed themselves to be free and equal and were in fact not.

Battle3, if Rev. King's dream has came true: Would you willingly trade places with a Black person today? Would you want to live in the USA as an African-American? If you can answer YES to these questions, then OK, for you the dream is alive and well.

"The best qualified jobs went to the best candidates as did the seats in the universities." No, I'm afraid not. It didn't happen that way. If you had Black skin or were a woman, it didn't happen like that. Enter affirmative action.

You don't know my race, and I have never posted it. I have no problem living in the USA as a person of any skin color.

The real question you should be asking is, would I want to live in one of the ghettos of the major cities of the USA? My answer is "no".

Heck yeah! not just African American though but an African American female. With my degree and my grades, I'd probably making a million dollars a year if i was an African American female.

"I have no problem living in the USA as a person of any skin color". You are one of very few who can honestly say that. Most Whites will tell you without hesitation that they'd much rather be White.

Darn! Then I wish you were a Black female!

Do you want to be judged based on your merit or do you want to be judged based on your race and/or gender???

Actually, I like having a permanent tan myself. The olive skin means I don't burn. ;)

Let me understand this. You claim that Blacks- despite their lower education levels- were somehow equal to whites who had better educations. Are you claiming that Blacks are somehow superior to Whites? I don't see it.

The one thing I love about the gym is there's no affirmative action in the gym.

No one gives anyone anything because of their race and gender and no one takes anything away from anyone because of their race and gender in the gym.

The gym is the ultimate meritocracy.

However I have had women who have tried to get affirmative action in the gym. For example, one woman told me the gym was for women only.

But sorry, it doesn't say anywhere in the rules that there is affirmative action in the gym.

Good try though. You get affirmative action everywhere else but you don't get it in the gym.

Blacks may need it, but does it make sense economically? I need a million dollars. Does that mean it makes sense to give it to me?

Sure. Watch your mailbox; I will be sending you a million dollars in cash. (Just kidding):roflol: I am tired of this thread; I'm not going to change my mind about affirmative action. And it appears that you are not going to change your mind. So, we will just have to agree to disagree. Have a nice day!

Were AA based on family income or academics rather than race, I'd be all for it, regardless of the race of those who benefited. It is the idea that it is race based that sticks in my craw.
