The United States of America was quite literately build around guns. USA has been taken part in over 50 wars world-wide, but only 11 have had major effects. Every single one of these wars revolved (ironic?) around guns. Whether the muskets of the revolutionary war, the M2 Browning Machine Gun in WWII, or the Colt M16A1 in Vietnam, the firearm has served the most useful tool in military history. But are civilians owning guns too far? The answer is no. Owning a handgun to defend your home and family is completely understandable and should remain legal. However, owning a Armalite AR-15 5.56x45mm assault rifle probably should NOT be. Guns are getting out of hand in America these days. Any government with sense would ban them, but pro-gun individuals and groups are preventing that. These people and groups claim that the second amendment reserves their right to own a gun. Alright, makes sense. The only problem with that is that the second amendment doesn't say that in the first place. The United States Constitution permits citizens to possess a personal arsenal if the government uses unreasonable force against them. Basically: if the government tries to kill you for no reason at all, you can kill them back if you didn't do anything wrong. In 2010, 8,000 American citizens were killed from gun violence. "Surely, looser gun laws would take that number down wouldn't it?" Oddly enough, no, that wouldn't work! In Great Britain, firearms have been completely banned, and as opposed to America's 8,000 deaths a year, they have 8. Yep, 8. Just 8. They still have guns to use for hunting too; no deaths from those either. My solution, ban handguns and automatic rifles- weapons that fire multiple rounds with one/individual pulls of the trigger. I doubt 23 innocent 3rd-graders would've died, had Adam Lanza had to pull the bolt on his .22 rifle and reload after 4 shots. Instead, he fired all 30 rounds from the STANAG of his AR-15 in some 12 seconds. Shotguns, Hunting rifles, and PDWs can and should stay. America may have been built by guns, but we can't let them destroy it.. :flagus:

You are OK with pistols for self defense but we should not be allowed to own an AR 15, which kills more people...I mean if you are so concerned about human life.
Where are guns getting out of hand, rural areas or urban areas?
I think your ideology is showing and your lack of understanding is apparent.

America and Guns, will the debate ever stop?

Only when you hang the profiteers who sell the murder weapons to the yellow-bellied inadequates who use them.

To the OP, good first post. It however with not spark a conversation since most in this forum is not about that.
I will say this. I have owned an AR15 in the past. It was a nice rifle, I just had no purpose for it. Also I would argue handguns are more dangerous as a whole then an AR15 when it comes to accidents.

Why? "Assault rifles" are responsible for less than 1% of crimes.

Are they? Murders (which are primarily done with guns) are at the lowest rate that they've been since the 1960s.

I thought you just said that handguns are ok? Well, they are responsible for most gun murders. Anything good for self defense is good for offense.

The SCOTUS has ruled otherwise. Please read Heller vs. DC and McDonald vs.Chicago.

Yet is is working. Our rate of homicides is down about 50% from 1993.

And before they banned guns, their firearm death rate was very low.

Those have been greatly restricted since 1934. They are known as automatic weapons, and in order to buy one, first, you have to find one that was in this country before 1986. Then, you have to pay a $250 tax, and go through a major background check. Only a handful of crimes have been done with legal automatic weapons, and one case of those was a police officer who used his department owned automatic weapon to commit armed robbery.

Lanza had to pull the trigger for every round he fired.

Lanza fired 154 rounds to kill those 23 kids. From what I've read, he shot them more than once. In five minutes, it is easily possible to kill 23 kids with a muzzle loader (single shot) if you know what you are doing.

I really do not think we will ever ban handguns. That is the weapon of choice for self-protection, especially for women, whether the need is realistic or imagined. That said, I would be open to some realistic restrictions if there was any indication that they would work. No matter how many laps gun-banners make with 23 dead kids, it doesn't change that they have yet to produce any credible evidence that anything they proposed would do anything other than make criminals out of law-abiding people without affecting the existing criminal behavior one iota.

You might make a better argument if you had a better understanding of who was murdering who, instead of who was using what gun.

You have been understandingly manipulated by the major leftist media into your current beliefs. Depending on the location, 50 to 80% of murders with guns in the US are GANG related. Deaths from big, bad, scary-looking "assault weapons" are big newsmakers, but gloss over reality.

What laws would you suggest to curb gang violence---not stupid gun control laws that are proven worthless?

Id hope that when i am in the USA i can carry a handgun for self defense.
Its no help to anyone to make a blanket ban on weapons, tho there may be ways to
    restrict criminal access.

And just imagine some Brit ideologue going on with colourfully exaggerated language to say something ridiculous.

nah, Im not prejudiced against Brits; I only grew up in a British colony.

    No reason for anything against ideologues either, I only had a few relatives killed in the cultural revolution;

I don't understand that, but I do know that you are having murdered huge numbers of Mexicans to feed your habits and hypocricies.

I know you had previously indicated that Mexican was a country, located...somewhere. Personally I have never heard of Mexican, the country. So now you are blaming me for the drug cartels killing their own people in Mexican????This coming from Mr. Complicit?
You lack the necessary knowledge to differentiate between nationalities and countries, and your going to offer your advice? Hell, son, you don't even know where Mexican is, by demonstrating your severe lack of geographical education, and offering up worthless comments that are irrelevant, you only bolster the argument that uneducated foreigners should keep out of our business. You know squat about anything American, You know exactly what a good subject should know....that their government gives them the Opinion of the Day
BTW, give the forum one name of a Mexicoan I've killed................

Your addiction is fuelled through Mexico (try an atlas, kid!), which your masters force to pretend to stop acting as a funnel to your expensive sickness. I don't know any of your victims any more than you do (murdered people are best anonymous, right?), but stop having them murdered and we can forget the whole business, can't we?

You're the one who called that country Mexican, not me. I have no addictions. I love and hate equally without benefit of drugs. So WTF are you screaming about? Just merely demonstrating how much you really don't know? FYI, I don't live anywhere close to Mexican.
I also want your source that I am killing anyone or return to your mud hut and stew on it some more.............I can't hardly wait for your next comedic written impulse joke

I am shameless. What murder do I support and how, Mr. Complicit? Whose Rights have I violated? What Right was that again? Sheesh that's like asking a subject about Rights, but I'll try to be tolerant of your admitted guilt and complicity with the all the crimes of your country.

Your nutty country kills four times per head the number mine kills, because you wicked people support guns for every nutter to kill children with. Those who want the nutters to have guns are guilty of their crimes, and should pay for them, preferably by being hanged.
