    Most likely a subdural hematoma. Consistent with the blows to the back/side of his head.

    If it had been an epidural bleed he would have had emergency surgery.

    If it was intracerebral he wouldn't have been discharged.

    Diagnosed by non contrast CT (moon shaped lesion, with minimal mass effect).

    He would have received emergency consults from neurology and neuro surg prior to discharge with nero follow up.

    He was in overnight and are you seriously telling me that you discharge patients with the above disorders the NEXT DAY? I know that the American healthcare system is broken but...........

    Thats the essence of emergency medicine.

    Discharge what can wait and admit patients that need to be admitted.

    They were likely monitoring him to assure no new symptoms. Maybe with a repeat CT prior to discharge.

    Epidural or intracerebral are admits. Epi's get a stat craniotomy with clot evacuation.

    THAT is a lawsuit waiting to happen

    There is NO WAY a “significant neurological injury” (your term) is ever “discharged the next day”. To be discharged the next day it had to be classified as a minor injury.
