The death penalty is supported on the part of myself, because it is fully understand that there are simply some individuals currently in the world who are unfit to continue being left alive.

I agree 100% with you. I am arguing with myself.

Capital Punishment is one of the very few topics that I can't take a hard stance on and defend. That's why I said I would openly support any decision made by the country to either uphold or abolish it. Both sides have very valid arguments in my book.

Normally I can pick a side and defend my position but in this case I feel like I can defend both sides almost equally because each side makes some solid points.

So you don't believe all life is "sacred"?

I am actually not against all forms of abortion. But please keep the thread on topic. Are you for or against the death penalty?

Against. Not that the monsters don't deserve it, but because an America that can twice elect Barack Hussein Obama has lost its moral authority to exact the ultimate punishment.

No, I do not. Some people do not deserve to live. This is how I feel regarding murderers and rapists (convicted ones, of course). But they would need to have done something truly heinous to become thus condemned by me.

It's actually a common misconception that the death penalty is cheaper than life in prison. In actuality, we spend more on inmates sentenced to death than we do on inmates sentenced to life in prison

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/03/27/just-cost-death-penalty-killer-state-budgets.html

We also discover that people on death row are innocent on a pretty regular basis, 2016 was the first time in 30 years that we had a year where no one on death row was found to be innocent. However, we've already had at least 1 such case in 2017. When we factor everything in, it is more likely that we have executed innocent people (by mistake) than it is we have a perfect record of discovering the innocent on death row.

On an international scale, the US is one of few first world countries that still practices the death penalty

Overall, I am not against killing bad guys, there's just no government in the world I trust to be given this authority. I would prefer we get rid of the death penalty

I'm all for the Death Penalty, provided the laws are tweaked to ensure fairness, and to afford more protections.

What you need is a Death Penalty Court, a sort of appeals court that automatically reviews death penalty cases.

Cops lie; prosecutors lie; cops hide evidence; prosecutors hide evidence; cops and prosecutors are protected by "qualified immunity"; jurors are often incompetent; the system is skewed in favor of the State, unless you just happen to have more money and resources than the State; the sentencing phase --- if used by States --- is prejudicial; and then there's the matter of plea bargaining.

Anyway, those are things the Death Penalty Court would try to quash, and hopefully protect an innocent person.

Who do you want to determine who gets the death penalty ? Should your personal opinion rule or should the law rule, as it does now.?

Did I say anywhere that my personal opinion should prevail over the Law of the Land? This thread asks about people's views and opinions on the death penalty, so my sharing of my thoughts is allowed.

Mostly against. I think it's far worse punishment to keep a man in prison for life than to end it.

At this time, life in prison is cheaper than the death penalty. Why? Wardens, prison guards and prisons are cheaper than Judges, lawyers and court houses.

On principle I am against, as I don't believe in giving the state authority to kill.

I believe some crimes are worthy of the Death Penalty.
