As for me, I welcome such initiative. I wish it spread countrywide so we could have a nation aware of how this country rolls and how to make it better.
But my doubts are if it happens, it happens in very distant future.

I agree. It's a great idea. We need savvy Americans who know how the government works.

It's going to be bad news for the right wing, if the comments of the right wing here are any indications.

Most of the conservatives here could not pass that test.

I had to pass a state Constitution test and a U.S. Constitution test before graduating. That was many moons ago.

I think that is great, this country has more dems then repubs, we need to educate all Americans on the importance of voting

When I was a kid graduating from 8th grade the school required that you pass a civics/constitution test. This was in Placer county in N. California. If you did not pass the test you could not participate in the ceremony but was allowed to move on to 9th grade.

My class had 9 fellow students that did not attend the ceremony. Not so PC, hurt some feelings when the teacher passed out the grades but it was a motivator to learn.

All Texas students had to pass civics when I graduated.

A good initiative, although given the state of public education I'm sure the test will get dumbed down. Heck, in CA they'd probably need a US civics test written in Spanish!

Just sounds like you have to pass a government class. Not really too sure why you have to know enough to be a US citizen though.

Sounds nifty (maybe a tad nationalistic, but I'm ok with that)... however.... 60/100, really? So to pass you need a failing grade? That's pretty pathetic.

We had to pass Government/Civics here in Virginia, too. I'm not sure if that's still the case....

You are almost right. Voting is important. However so is teaching them the meaning of freedom and how important personal liberties are. More about self reliance. More about saving and living within your means. Etc

This is a good idea. You can learn how government works. More importantly, how things are supposed to be done. When I graduated in high school in 05, which was in AZ, we had to take US/AZ government and economics our senior year.

I just took an online Civics Test for the fun of it and passed with a 100%.

    Thank you very much.

Well I know some liberals in the inner city baltimore that wouldn't even show up to the test.

See how rash generalization doesn't work? Pick a new strategy

I like it. I don't like to "force" patriotism on people but I think it's good that our kids at least learn the basic history of our nation and the basics of how the government actually works.

I find it hilarious that the majority of our citizens all seem to have an opinion on something yet most of them couldn't tell you who the hell the Speaker of the House is let alone what the job entails. Obama and Biden are about the only 2 names most people know and the latter is lost on a good chunk of them as well.

I believe they are using the test that immigrants take to become citizens.

Didn't realize that, and if that's the case, I'm fine with it as long the teachers keep their political views/preferences to themselves. (I might be dreaming, but ....)

Rash generalizations seem to work for you!

Besides, I'm basing my comments on the many times that I've had to patiently explain to some right winger how a process works in government. Many have no idea at all.

I'm sure many liberals don't either. You're just being bias.

Yecchhh, there's nothing more dull than Civics. Those poor students would be better served by an auto mechanics class.

WTF? What next; arrest for not saluting the flag or wearing a lapel pin? This is the sort of nationalist lunacy we saw in Nazi Germany forcrissakes.
