This threat isn't about the American peoples ability to defend themselves or the US invasion of Canada.

It's about army structure, vehicle numbers and how it is all run. You can start a new thread about that if you want, I would be happy to argue about it. Just not here.

    This is nothing.

The majority of those armed have no training, no logistics, and have weapons that are completely unsuited for any kind of use in any kind of invasion. And the majority have less then 500 rounds in their home.

Yea, I have guns. A .380 pistol and a .22 rifle. Total number of rounds is around 150 (100 .380, 50 .22). I don't have any equipment to make my own rounds, and you can't reload a .22 anyways. So what good are these weapons in an invasion?

And yea, I have extensive training. I could maybe lead a platoon sized band if we could scrounge up enough weapons and ammo, but what exactly is this going to do against even a standard Platoon of Infantry? Not much, take out a few as we die gloriously for our country.

Sorry, but once again you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Leave such scenarios to the experts, or to Hollywood. Red Dawn was a good example of how a US Partisan band would operate, but if you look at the actual "big picture" of the movie, they made little to no difference outside of their little area of operations.

And your "mulitple battle rifles and 10K rounds of ammo" would be a complete joke. A normal Army Company burns through more rounds then that in an afternoon at the rifle range. Come back when you have a clue about logistics.

No, you will not. Because you would be untrained and more of a danger to our Armed Forces then the enemy is.

Yes, the military might take in a few, primarily Veterans and those with Law Enforcement experience. But most would be worthless in any kind of a battle at best, and a danger to the entire unit more often then not.

Having a gun does not make one a Soldier.

You are still of the mindset that the US population would fold like a cheap knife.
Sure, there will be back stabbers in our population. But it will be very few, and they will be dealt with harshly.
You see, we are not a homogenous society. Meaning individually, we really dont care if we kill each other if needed.
So you name me a conflict were the guerilla fighters came from a heavily armed citizenry like ours.
    And in the shear numbers.
Keep in mind, Red Dawn was a movie. The real think never will or can happen. And in the million to one shot someone tries, god help them.

Having local knowledge matters and a will to fight matters. The moment our beaches are breached. YOU may be the ones having to get out of our way.
You keep thinking we are just a bunch of dumb hicks with guns. But if you cant hold the nation, we will.

Attitudes like yours are why I have lost much respect for the military.
You start thinking that you are doing OUR bidding world wide, go fight half assed villagers in some third world nation then come back thinking you are superman and the rest of us are just pigs in the way.
In that million to one shot we are ever invaded, dont worry about us. Do me that favor.

Boring it maybe but I find it interesting. Moreso than debating about things that we have gone over time and time again. I am interested in learning and increasing my knowledge.

You sure about that? I mean, when the enemy will roll into, they will be put into power. They will hunt the resistance, not the other way around.
What will be your relations with guerilla, when they'll hang one of your neibours? Do you have a family to fear for?
Pretty much ALL gurillas have/had enough weapons.

One thing this site is great for is weeding out the idiots from the experts, and those who actually want to learn.

We have several Veterans, and 9 times out of 10 I find their analysis is pretty spot-on. We have the experience to see everything involved, and understand things like logistics, chain of command and discipline.

Then you have the honest amateurs, who come in here wanting to learn. They may have wrong ideas, but they do not just reject us out of hand and have no problem learning from us.

Then you have the Armchair Generals. They sit back and throw around amazing amounts of bull(*)(*)(*)(*), having not a single clue what they are talking about in reality but insisting they are right and everybody else is wrong.

And I happily sit back and destroy their silly arguments with facts and experience.

As for those advocating a Red Dawn repulsing of an invading army, just not gonna happen. Most people are sheep, and will follow whatever they are told to do because it is safer that way. Sure, they may give lip service and a little assistance if it is safe enough for them to do so, but most will try to simply carry on with their lives as they always have before. We have seen this in every country in the world that has ever been invaded, and the US would be no different.

France at the beginning of WWII had one of the highest gun ownership rates in Europe, partially because they were protected in the memory of The Revolution. But they did have registration so when the Germans came in they knew exactly who had guns, what kind, and how many (and this is not some anti-registration rant - I am just giving an example). So some individuals did take to the woods and hid their guns, the Germans however successfully rounded up most of the guns in private ownership.

And in a country of almost 42 million people, the famous "French Resistance" never numbered more then 100,000 until after the Allies landed on Normandy. And France also has a much higher population density, 301 per square mile compared to 86 per square mile in the US. SO even if the US had a similar percentage join a "Resistance movement", that means less then 1/4 the manpower per area then the largely ineffective French had (they were more effective in espionage and sabotage then as any kind of military force).

The only knowledge you will find at this point is we are slowly seeing a new class of US citizen.
    The warrior class.
The ones that our idiot presidents have sent world wide to fight on someone elses behalf.
Now they come back, and many weild their military experience like a baton. Anyone that didnt go "in" is some sort of lesser class of citizen, and they love to throw that card down.
I see them all over the internet. Just as soon as they dont like the conversation, its "I was actually....blah blah blah"
My father was a WWII combat vet of the south pacific. Never once held his service over anyones head.
Never even mentioned it to anyone out side the family and other vets.
I have bad news for them though, there are not enough of them to defend the US if there is an (one in a million) invasion. As long as it stays conventional, they will need us. And we will need to help them and will gladly do so.
But the attitude, its getting alittle old.

And as in every other case where you try to take me on, you talk nothing about facts and reality, only espousing some nonsense.

And yes, "hicks with guns" would have their purposes. In conventional military doctrine they are called "Irregulars", and make good "Cannon Fodder". For that purpose we would give you assistance, even some basic training, then point you at some enemy and let you scream "Give me Liberty or Give me Death!" as you charge their lines.

Then after you have disorganized and weakened them, we will follow you in and mop up. Because even a mob with guns is still just a mob, no training, no organization, no concept of tactics or strategy. But useful in it's own way. But you would be kept at arms length, not to be trusted not because you have guns but because you have no organization.

Ok I will bite after you wrecked my thread.

I have understand of my local area and can run a mile in 6 minutes to the wood near where I live. However if I was going to be of any use at all I would have to be able to understand tactics, have strengh and fitness training, being trained how to blow the bridge near my house and trained in fire arms. Do you have any training in those things? Also what happens when you get found out, I wonder what would happen to your family. So are you willing to risk that?

Well as usual when it comes to these type of discussions, I happen to agree with Mushroom's analysis.

But it is all rather moot anyway.

There is no country in the world who could invade the United States right now, or in the appreciable future. We are protected by our military, our geography, and the rest of the world's incapability.

And as far as the 'warrior class'........

    No.

There are countries where many of the men literally grow up as a warrior class- and none of those countries are a threat to us. Other than those who have actually trained- and I mean really trained- in America to be 'warriors'- we have no such warrior class. A bunch of guys with guns does not constitute a 'warrior class'

That was not so much the case during the initial invasion. I have read a number of accounts from Germans talking about the dangers of approaching French farmhouses and someone takes a shot at them. Later once they took control an area they were very systematic in removing guns

And we do have a screwed up view of what the resistance really did. Very few went around snapping Nazi necks like we see in so many B rate films. The single biggest job they did was report what they were seeing, messing with the internal logistics of the Germans, and where possible aiding allied servicemen getting away. These are the sort of rolls I see civilians filling if the US ever were to be invaded.

Going out untrained with a gun makes you a target. Flying under the radar and letting American forces know where the snipper in that field is, will be far more valuable to the greater cause.

Obviously this one is "what if" type of discussion.

Paris 1943. So much of "occupied, but resisting".

I think you can thank the Wizard of Oz for the derail. And yes, I am plenty willing to risk that and more.

The "warrior class" is not the guys with guns. Its the ones that have come back to the US with a mentality that we cannot survive without them.
Or that we need to all of a sudden, at least online so far, back down from them as soon as they throw out the same old "well when I was in Iraq" or whatever the latest line is to drown out an online conversation.

He replied by you where the one that when off topic.

So you would be willing to have your family murdered just because you wanted to try and be a hero. Here is an idea why not join the US army, navy, air force or marines?

Please give me the "facts and reality" of an armed invasion of the US. Seeing as it is not going to happen, I guess if we dont see it YOUR way. We "must" be wrong.
If it has actually happened before, I would take your analysis more seriously. But since 1812, we have been pretty safe.

Was it after or before teh "Overlord"?
Anyway. 1944-1939=5 years with little to no resistance.

There is an urban legend that the reason Field Marshal Keitel was executed is that after signing the capitulation he saw people in french uniform and said: "What? These have defeated us too or something?"
