Which is why the Mideast has to take the lead on this. This is one problem we cannot and should not own.

What we really need to do is remove the escape hatch for moderate muslims that allows them to emigrate into Western areas.

The Muslims need to have a conclave to modify the religious precepts the Daesch are using to justify their actions. They will not do that until they really feel the pain of not doing it.

WE need to stay out of the area amap; otherwise we are just helping to fulfill their prophesy that they will vanquish invading powers from th West and then have their new Caliphate. You're dealing with the Koran as an Art of War manual here and the prophesies are motivational. The more we step in, the more they recruit.

Our appropriate course is to NOT allow further Muslim immigration until they do that.

    Collateral damage.

Islam cannot behave. It must go. The world will finally know peace.

    I agree with this notion.
I do think that getting Muslims to disown IS is a challenge though, and I doubt it can be invoked from non-Muslims.

There needs to be a ME hero of some sort that can rally the islamic world against IS. I won't hold my breath.

That's not going to happen until the West's influence over the ME is cut off. But the West doesn't want to let go for obvious reasons.

muslims are arabs are angry and confused. They think they are a great people but reality proves them wrong. They are looking for ways to progress, to improve. They've already tried socialism and nationalism and failed. Now they are trying islamism. What we need to do is completely destroy IS, so that they understand it's not an option. Because as it is now, ISIS kind of looks like a viable alternative to them. They really believe they are winning and that they are building a new caliphate. Of course that's appealing to muslims and arabs whose pride has been wounded. But if we smash ISIS, they will realise islamism is just another dead end, and hopefully they will try for liberal democracy next time. Just kill them all, blow up all their sheet and pee on it. It won't be an appealing option anymore.

The only solution is strong leaders and they shouldn't be anyones puppet, be it Russias or the West.
Syria and Libya was good examples how such Arab countries should be ruled. Strong leaders that can suppress Islamic idiots. Iraq to.

I think we all can agree on that this talk about bringing democracy to the middle east is a fairy tale for the average news paper reader. That is sheep people.

Both Libya and Syria is and was Russian allies.

Arachaic Islamism is certainly not an option. A renovated Islamism that regards the7 modern world for what it is is what is needed.

Insofar as islamism means "islam applied to politics", which is all it means... no, definitely no.

The Joint Chiefs won't do that, they are all obama sycophants. obama will call them in, say do a little bit to make me look like I'm doing something, but don't get me in political hot water, and they will say "Yes 'massah".

It has to be attacked militarily and ideologically. The legitimacy of the Islamic State's "caliphate" is derived largely from the territory it occupies.

More people have joined them in the absence of an invasion.

Their biggest recruitment tool is their success, as was the case with al Qaeda.

It's not a good foundation for a society. The problem with Islam compared to christianity is that Islam has something to say about nearly everything -much of it stupid- whilst christianity leaves much more room for common sense.

And how do you just destroy it?

We had hundreds of thousands of boots on the ground in Iraq. Did they destroy the Iraqi insurgency?

What if it takes "ten (*)(*)(*)(*)ing years" for the Syrian government to be strong enough to reoccuppy the ISIS controlled areas of Syria?

If God is our Creator, then he knows what is good for us. And Christians don't even know what the hell they believe in.

Anyway, non-Muslims are not expected to obey Islamic law, so I really don't see the problem here.

If by ended, you mean "would result in the majority of ISIS fighters adopting civilian clothes, throwing down their weapons, and scattering along with the thousands of refugees that would be fleeing the invading armies to meld into the population and attack us again in guerrilla war later, then yeah.

    - - - Updated - - -

And foreign conventional ground forces have never defeated an indigenous guerrilla army without committing genocide upon the entire population in the region.

Many people would argue that theocracy in any form is "archaic" and thus inconsistent with modernity. How does your "renovated" theocracy get around that?

    What does that even mean?

What about the needs of the Muslims who prefer secular, pluralistic societies to some form or concept of Islamic theocracy?

Islam is not a theocracy. The Caliphates were not priests. Islam is based on the Shura system, a form of democracy.

I'm not so sure yet. We can however start with the fact that religion today is not as it was during the time of the Caliphates. Before, one's religion was his whole identity; his passport, if you will. That isn't the case today.

Minorities never get their way, and Muslim societies have always been pluralistic. Look at Dubai.

So what would nuking the Middle East accomplish besides murdering a bunch of innocent people, making the US a pariah, and collapsing the global economy by driving the price of gasoline over a thousand dollars a gallon?

That's the problem with this forum. It's almost impossible to tell someone being facetious from a conservative Christofascist who really does want to exterminate all Muslims.

Living according to Islam is bad for muslims themselves is what I'm saying. As I've said, Islam has something to say on nearly every issue, and what it says is based on what superstitious arabs thought more than a thousand years ago. It is crystallized ignorance.
