I do not believe Trump outright caused the riot. But he did catalyze it. And that began months before his rally speech that day did. His messaging, and the messaging of those who took up his cause, since the election has been building up to this point. He did not outright tell these folks to go to the capitol building and do what they did. But he took many steps towards giving his followers the impression that he condoned those types of dramatic chaotic actions.

His whole election fraud charade led to the events of the 6th. And since that whole election fraud campaign was largely nonsense, and he knew it, that gives him some culpability for the events that transpired because of it.

 

And don't forget, that Trump sat there and watched the violence unfold, and did nothing for hours.

1:11 pm, Trump finished his speech.

2:10 pm, Police radio the Capitol has been breeched and lockdown ensues.

2:24 pm, Trump tweets "Mike Pence didn't have the courage to do what should have been done ..." No mention of "peace".

2:44 pm, rioter is shot entering a restricted area. Still no tweet from Trump except for the one criticizing Pence.

4:17 pm, Trump finally tweets a video telling rioters they, "are very special" and still claiming the election was stolen, but
for rioters to go home in peace.

Trump watched, and people died. He never cared. He doesn't care now. He made no effort to stop the violence
for two hours because he thought it might help him. It was only when he realized that it was a PR nightmare that
he took action. End of story.

 

Did trump invite people to Washington before Jan 6th???? Was there something in one of those invitations about "be there, it'll be wild"??? Did idiot don jr. get the crowd started before daddy's talk on Jan 6th???

And so you realize he could have (and in fact did) "capitalize" on it by calling for the plan to be carried out, and in fact took steps to make it happen by holding his rally that morning and telling the thugs they had to "be strong or lose the country", right? And you know of the recorded words of one of the thugs as he stood on Capitol grounds during the siege, saying "the President invited us here", right?

And all that is just in 1 speech, the day he incited a riot on the Captiol.

I agree that Trump may be partly to blame if he instigated it but the people who entered the Capitol bear the most blame.
