I believe the monasteries took care of them in the past. Are we so less civilized today? Answer: Yes!

in fact there are millions of people prepared to look after theses babies and give them the best life they possibly can. To dismiss human life so easily, as many posters do, cannot be a good thing

No, there are not "millions of people" prepared to look after children with physical problems and the mental age of a two-year old.

There is widespread speculation in Australia that real Tasmanians are born with two heads and that Victorians are really Tasmanians with one of the heads decapitated.

But there isn't a lineup to adopt severely damaged children.

Even for healthy children... if even half of the fetuses aborted over the past two decades were born...

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_statistics_in_the_United_States

... would we still have a lineup of millions of people waiting to adopt? I think there's a good chance we wouldn't.

How many 'severely damaged children' are being born each year? I doubt there are that many and there are good people who want to adopt and care for these children despite any birth defects. Unless we know how many severely damaged children are being born each year the the numbers are impossible to predict.

It seems that the concern over 'severely damaged' babies being born is being used as an excuse to justify third trimester abortions and even situations where the baby has already been born. That's why there are legitimate concerns about infanticide. The same law of 'unintended consequences' occurred when people were aborting their babies because they wanted a boy rather than a girl. This just takes it another step further.
