How to put condoms on vegetables and "Sarah Has Two Mommies".

Reminds me of what my dad taught me. He drove me through an Indian reservation once and showed me the trailers, the trash, and the despair and poverty. He told me to take nothing from the white man or I would end up like these reservation Indians. The greatest gift he gave me, on top of keeping me off the reservations, is teaching me not to take anything "free" from anyone.

Fathers can be so instrumental in raising us right.

In my past, I have used poor judgement when it comes to money. Thankfully, I had a distaste for credit cards due to my father being enslaved by them.

Yet, Like most people, I still lived payday to payday for much of my adult life. After becoming a Dave Ramsey fan I began to understand that personal finance was habitual.

Once I properly arranged my priorities, I began to detox from my consumption addiction. Once a person becomes liberated from debt and poor financial awareness, you begin to see the massive faults in the mindsets of the poor and of the government.

And that foolish mindset is what keeps them poor. If they would just consider the full cost of what they spend, they would probably completely change their spending habits.

    Things like:

$2,000 on a credit card actually costs $4,400
    A $20,000 car actually costs about $25,000
    A $150,000 house actually costs $360,000

And that all of those numbers get even bigger if you have bad credit.

    On the other hand:

Investing instead of smoking a pack a day is worth $500,000 toward retirement.
Buying a $5,000 used car and saving your $400 a month payment means you can afford the $20,000 car brand-new and pay cash in four years. The normal alternative is having a run-down car in four years and still having to pay the $400 per month.

Many poor people would be fairly well off if they would just learn a little basic financial planning and would exercise a little self-discipline.

You remind me. Pappy also taught me that there is nothing that is FREE. Everything comes with a price or a responsibility or worst of all, a string attached.
Even FREEDOM is far from FREE. It takes much hard work and dedication, and the takers of this nation are not working FOR FREEDOM, they are stupidly working against it.

Excellent post. The last thing the poor need is more government enabling, they need patience and financial awareness.

I happen to be one of those who put 400 per month into a car fund. One year ago, we paid cash for my wifes slightly used BMW. We are currently building my fund.

Unlike the poor, I have money in savings earning 4.1% and no car payment in case of a financial hardship.

The lack of those two simple attributes is what earns them the dubious title, "Poor People."

That is their choice to do or not do. Blaming me or others for their plight is what pizzes me off.

Of course you would begrudge them, and you'd still be looking for the same bunch of lazy losers even if the pool of lazy losers was smaller. There are just some people born to begrudge.

Since conservatives DO contribute more of their own money to charity, than liberals do, the facts put lie to your opinions.

I don't buy this business that the wealthy are smarter and better at business. Guys like George Bush Jr. and Donald Trump -- how many times have their businesses failed? But when you're wealthy, you just start over again, either with family money or money from the bank or money from the government.

The wealthy are not smarter than the rest of us. They just have more money.

Being rich is also not a virtue, and the 3 reasons given in the OP is not even being close to being the only or main reasons for poverty.

Whatever excuse that allows you to avoid facing your own lack of success. Enjoy!

Liberal logic, the rich are dumb, the poor are smart. Yes, go with that. Its no worse than most loony liberalism's.

Isn't that the Leftist Mantra, that the "rich" have some sort of unmerited advantage. It's ridiculous. In fact, more often than not, those who succeed at business are willing to work harder than Generation X who just wants to have their social life and play Xbox and work as little as they can to maintain that lifestyle. Those who succeed are willing to start a business, take a risk, and work 16 hours a day everyday just to get it off the ground. They often go years before they have enough of a profit so that they can hire help and are able to relax a little. Once they start getting some real success, that's when the government decides it's time to punish them for their success. They're like all the little farm animals who didn't help the little hen plant the corn, raise it, and harvest it, but are there to eat the cornbread when it comes out of the oven.

Your post, like most of your posts denotes the sad truth that all you have is coveteousness, an unholy and evil thirst for the labors of another. Far from the "rich" being greedy for the "crime" of wanting to keep more of what they earn, the real and true GREED is on the part of those who don't work but take, who don't earn but scheme to deprive from those who have earned.

It's wickedness. God forbade it in the Ten Commandments. The guilty will not go unpunished.

Being poor is never a virtue in a country like the USA. In regards to starting out poor and broke in the USA, not the wealthy privilaged ones, Anyone has the right to succeed in all conditions. With all the opportunity to succeed, only those with the ability to succeed will do so. Those who lack the ability to succeed out of poverty in the USA are weaker than those who succeed in poverty of other countries. Because the opportunities are less, and the competition is greater in other countries.

Anyone who blames the white devil for holding them back is just using race as an excuse. Evident by the amount of white trash trailer parkers and crack heads, I will say that white people have the same obsticals as others. Some make it and some don't.

Fact is, it takes intelligence, and self discepline, and self esteem to do it. These are the things religion takes away, and religion makes their followers "give up their soul to preachers", makes them worship, and makes them obedient, by using guilt, shame, and threats to justify simplifing life and society in simple terms for simple thinking. This religious cognitive restraint makes their followers good mindless soldiers who will stick to the religious cult code and rituals. As a result, they are not able to succeed in the face of challange, but revert to praying and hoping their propblems will go away. moreover, they become depended on the praying and hopeing and they lose their ability to account for their own actions, or lack of action.

So being poor is not a virtue, but it is a choice of the lazy and religiously restrained. And blaming other factors for their demise is the easiest way they can explain it. Because it takes a real man/woman to admit they are the only ones in control of their destiny.:omg: LOL... ilike these little round faces.:fart:, ha ha:mrgreen:

Can you provide some of these statistics?

In speaking of "statistically". Statistically, jobs are being massively outsourced to places like China and India. If those jobs were still here, a lot "poor" people wouldn't be as poor.

    Why do you care?

And to answer your random, irrelevant, pointless, non-incriminating, non-interesting question..I think Oprah and Warren are evil. Bill Gates, no.

I agree. I am actually "conservative" in an economic sense, especially, with regards to natural resources. The more conservation, the better. Which means that if people spend less and buy smaller cars and smaller houses and occupy less land and buy less food and try to be more utility efficient, that is smart financially and satisfies one of my major tenets of ideology-resource conservation.

I don't know what your point is here.

The "liberals" being the cause of excessive government is just retarded rhetoric that not you nor anyone else can support.

However, as a geoist, I don't deny that excessive government is a major problem.

Henry George. He said the following.

"What has destroyed every previous civilization has been the tendency to the unequal distribution of wealth and power."

It's a simplistic explanation of how "every previous civilization has been destroyed", but it's a damed good point IMHO.

I waited. But heard little in defense as to why Being Poor ISN'T a
Virtue.Take Mother Teresa. She was far poorer than 99% of
those in this country who claim need of relief. She possessed
just a few garments. The same religious garb.Had no Luxury
whatever in her life.I doubt she even snuck an occassional chocolate
treat. He luxury was of Mind & Heart. He vice was of caring for those
who needed the most immediate help. There's no way to teach todays'
youth her mettle. She lived life as if Poor. She may have had shelter
and food if need be,but was willing to sacrifice most anything in order
to care for those most in need. She was a Living,Breathing, walking,
example of what God would easily agree to be a Saint on Earth.
There are many such Saints on Earth.Because being a Saint means
not to advertise. But to DO.For those of the least of us.

****? You just bumbed your head! If you don't like what I have to say, don't read my threads. God is watching and all men will give an account to Him one day. I will repeated this truth as often as I see fit and I won't be silenced by you, an act of Congress, or an army of college professors. The truth will be spoken and you can't stop it.

Every knee shall bow (including yours) and every tongue will confess (including yours) that Jesus Christ is Lord.

You seem like the ultimate fool, no offense intended. You have a picture of St.Michael and say poverty NOT a virtue. And yet Jesus of Nazareth said "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God." Luke 6:20

In fact according to the Bible, poverty is such a virtue that Jesus acted in such a way to prove himself: "He became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich" - 2 Corinthians 8:9

If you call yourself a Christian you're a total hypocrite.

I don't know why, but there's a strong relationship of likelihood between being a big wig capitalist, and being theistic.

You will find so-called pro-capitalists who are theistic are actually very far from the principles of actual capitalism. Hardly any support truly free markets and property rights for the world. Theists are inherently statist.

    how do you determine though?

I am further left than the majority of american liberals, as are most of the people I know ... including in my parents generation.

I grew up with values that included planning for the future, putting something aside "for a rainy day," not spending what you didn't have (no time payment plans for us back in the fifties!), not being wasteful etc ...

and today I am far better at these things than most conservatives I know.... I have accumulated considerable assets and STILL spend less on a lot of things than most conservatives I come into contact with.

which works for me, because I have been able to assist my children to get established, and have enough to do the things that I really love to do (like travel!).
