Staffers for presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) have drafted a letter to campaign manager Faiz Shakir complaining that they are making “poverty wages,” and demanding he pay them a $15 per hour minimum wage.

...Sanders has committed to supporting a federal minimum wage of $15 per hour — despite evidence from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that it would lead to massive job losses. (As the New York Times noted last month, the CBO found that a $15 per hour minimum wage — which the Democrat-run House of Representatives will vote on soon — “would lift 1.3 million people out of poverty but also put an estimated 1.3 million Americans out of work.”)

Its funny, Bernie is running on raising the minimum wage and yet he can't even provide "poverty wages" to his campaign staff.

This is just a prime example of Bernie and his supporters getting mugged by reality.

Bernie also owns multiple homes and is a multi millionaire, shouldn't he lead by example by selling even just one of his homes to pay his staff more than "poverty wages"?

It sounds almost like his staff are in gulag like conditions.

The left will slam the source of this article believing it came from Breitbart when it actually originated with the Washington Post.

    Indeed.

    Bernie's staff is unionized.

Be a shame if they went on strike, and bernie had to bring in scabs.

There is no federal minimum wage of $15 dollars an hour. There is one for a measly $7.25...

Minimum wage of $15? What is this nonsense? The average lowest paying job is sitting at $7.25 in the US.

This coming from people who don't have even the most basic grasp of economics let alone how the free market/job market works. The majority of countries that are doing well DON'T have a minimum wage, my own country(Norway) included.

Your salary/wages is someone else's cost. This kind of ludicrous idea will only severely hurt the economy in the long run and will quite easily ruin the very concept of internship let alone trainee programs.

This is nothing more than fools thinking extremely short-term, sacrificing the long-term health and growth of the economy.

The party is just whacking Bernie early this primary season. That’s all. Still, it’s amusing.

Surely the job increases that occur would swallow up the losses in a short time..

Do you not understand that it will recover from the change and not changing it means more impoverishment?

Have you read the CBO report? I suggest you do if you want to understand the topic.

Why are you arguing with RP12 when it's Sanders you should be talking to? Perhaps Sander's doesn't have the economic acumen he wants us to believe he has.

Yeah prevailing wages across the entire country has nothing to do with it.

Not a determining factor at all.

Sanders is one of the leading figures pushing for this.. You would know this if you spent 3-4 seconds reading the OP.

    Nope. There aren't "job increases".

Typically there is either less hiring, or people fired.

And thats besides the increased costs to business that may even shut them down, like is happening in Seattle after it increased the minimum wage.
