It's actually kind of chilling in a way. He knew what he wanted politically, and how to accomplish it. He knew they were so stupid he could practically write a manifesto on it, and they would still do it.

That level of stupidity is simply amazing.

Very amazing, but I can’t say I’m shocked.

I notice most of those who support this are also the same people who didn’t even read the thing. And for those of who do read it in an attempt to understand, we are told we are weirdos for reading it.

    Buzz Lightyear is right:

Shoulda said 'they wanna take our guns away'. You're assertion that it would happen except 'the gun lobby is too strong' proves that notion correct.

Though your identification of the source of the resistance is a bit off- gun owners are too strong.

We've had MBCs in WA for several years. At a cost of $10M/year, they've netted one conviction total, and that only after the prohibited person shot someone with the illegally purchased firearm.

~$60,000,000 to tack one process crime onto one murder charge in one case is a waste of resources by any metric.

Its also important to note that gun violence neither dropped after the law passed nor was it increasing prior to the law passing, so MBCs cannot be demonstrated to have accomplished anything else.

Canada spent less than that on their national long gun registry before deciding it wasn't worth the money and scrapping it nearly a decade ago.

So, in short, the issue is that it costs a lot of money and doesnt solve any problems.

Where can you legally purchase a gun without a background check? If you mean private citizens selling guns to one another, good luck regulating that. I can buy a car from my neighbor, drive it out of the driveway without a licence, insurance or ID. Many terrible things can be done with large vehicles. What are you going to do? You can by drugs from anyone illegally too. Better stop people from doing that =)

Bernie couldn't even stop two small women from taking his mic away.

He's certainly not going to take away the 2A.
