Socialism has a long history of failure, around the globe. Cant say the same for Capitalism. This little country of pioneers, became a world superpower with it. That the POTUS is often called "leader of the free world" is no accident.

Actually, because socialism was intentionally connected with communism by propagandists from both sides of the Cold War, it gained a negative reputation that was completely undeserved. Socialism has taken many forms thru history. Certainly, there have been failures, & forms that have not served the countries well that they resided in. But since WW2, new, democratic forms of socialism have arisen that incorporate the best ideas socialism has to offer, & combined those with many great ideas from Capitalism, for a truly successful system that protects & preserves human dignity, personal freedoms & a clear national commitment to compassion for their fellow man. This new socialism--called "Democratic Socialism--is the one Bernie & his followers adhere to. Capitalism alone hasn't really served the current generations of American well. Since the 1950s, & especially since the 1980s, there has been an incremental political move toward ever more laws passed to benefit the wealthiest among us over the masses. That process has resulted in the most extreme diversity of wealth between the rich & poor ever in our history. Capitalism is supposed to offer opportunity to all, but clearly it now serves the wealthiest only. Bernie Sanders is correct in his quest for change. American capitalism has become a tool of the wealthy only. It needs to be modified to serve the workers too. There are many successful examples of countries in W Europe that have made such a change. There's no reason we can't too.

You're right that the POTUS has been called the "leader of the free world." But no one is "free" who struggles constantly to just survive from one payday to the next. They live on the brink of economic disaster every day of their lives. Every American deserves better. Every human being living anywhere, deserves better.
