Why did you have to go and shoot your credibility in the nuts?

Greenspan and Phil Gramm are almost at the top of the list. You've also ignored the murder of the S&L banks. Republicans did a wide variety of idiotic things that undermined the economy.

Yes, the Dems are in there, esp. Clinton. But Republicans did much, much more.

The Republicans were helped by dems. The dems stopped looking out for workers. We expect the GOP to be for the elite but don't expect the DP to also be for them too. As they grind the middle class to dust and ashes.

They got as much as they could. After they passed the Heroes Act, Republicans crapped all over it.

You're not entirely wrong, but the small business stuff was handled by Mnuchin and some other WH guys. Typical Trump screwup.

Or did you mean the Clinton era? Politics had swung hard Right, and Clinton wound up occupying the Center/Right. The Kochs had put together the best propaganda machines in history, by far, and dragged the country to the Right.

    It was madness.

No doubt the country moved right and away from FDR, the looking out for common people. Americans have amnesia and new generations are not aware of the perpetual battle involving max profits over the general welfare of non elites.

If the economic pie is fairly split up between the owners and workers, capitalism can create a large healthy middle class. If labor costs are minimized by shipping production to exploitable poor or by abusing your own workers and the rules allow it, you get the history of humanity. A few rich and powerful elites in control and the working poor. That's our history since civilization arose.

If you see an era where labor is valued enough, and workers have value as humans instead of being seen and treated as a commodity, people can and do prosper by being good workers. And a middle class is created.

So as a retired business owner, small manufacturer, my wages for my workers who produced my income and their own created or added to our local middle class. I paid more than the industry average in my sector, which meant I kept less from the pie instead of more by paying the working poor industry average. And that is an inconvenient truth in how applied capitalism works in reality. And always has.

My business model matched the model that I grew up in. Where even a retail worker like my spinster aunt made enough in a dept. store to live middle class and own her home and prospered..But unlike the retail model of today she earned a hourly wage plus commissions on her sells..Instead of taxpayers subsidizing her wages with food stamps etc.. Like Walmart.

Capitalism must be regulated or you get the America of today! History proves this, our own history..

We no longer value workers unless they are professionals. And then we stupidly pretend that everyone can be a decently paid professional!! Never has been reality and never will be.
