No legal authority in an advisory referendum either. Power is invested in Parliament to act in the best interests of the British people.
Because Parliament recognises how damaging a no deal Brexit would be but they haven't yet been able to agree on a deal to leave (for various reasons including political manouvering from both sides). The chances of a new deal getting through Parliament are probably greatly increased after the sh#t show of the last week but an acceptance of the backstop is still going to be a requirement as the EU cannot concede the need for a border between member states and non-member states. Likewise, the GFA needs there to be no border between NI and the ROI. The backstop is still the only working solution to the border problem.
It seems that Boris, the PM has come up with a plan. He will refuse to appoint a new European Commissioner if forced to extend our membership beyond October 31. He's using the EU's own rules to do this, plus the French, who are fed up with the word Brexit will veto any more extensions. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-france-boris-johnson-extension-a9096361.html
I forgot to add that Boris and Farage have come up with a deal for any snap election which will give the Tories about a 100 seat majority in Parliament. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9851382/nigel-farage-price-election-pact-boris-johnson-no-deal-brexit/
Wishful thinking is a hell of a drug. Not sure where you got your 100 seat majority from. A Boris Farage coalition is problematic due to The PM's pro-immigration stance. The more likely outcome is a split in the right-wing vote opening the door for Labour and the Lib' Dem's to take seats in the more marginal constituencies.
Seems to come from a credible source just a few hours ago. I will admit that the 100 seats was just a rough estimate but wishful thinking?, yes, wishing that it was all over as it should have been back in March. https://www.express.co.uk/news/poli...arage-brexit-alliance-tories-general-election
