Canadians boycott US products, cancel vacations to America

Blame America.

Canadians have taken to practicing pocketbook diplomacy in defense of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is caught in a trade war of words with President Trump, by boycotting American goods and canceling vacations to the United States, according to a report.

Shoppers are shunning Kentucky bourbon, California wine and Florida oranges, and avoiding American companies like Starbucks, Walmart and McDonald’s, Canadian network CTV News reported on Wednesday.

On Twitter, hashtags like #BuyCanadian, #BoycottUSProducts and #BoycottUSA are spreading as outrage over Trump’s trade tariffs grows.

An Ottawa man posted a “Trump-free grocery cart”full of products from Canada or from “countries with strong leadership.”

Vacationers said they would be staying up north this summer instead of booking trips to the US.

“F–k you Trump. We just booked a $3,000 vacation to beautiful British Columbia. Happy anniversary to us. #Canadastrong #BuyCanadian #F***Tariffs,” tweeted Supreme Leader Lyna.

And one Twitter user called on “Patriotic Americans” to schedule vacations in Canada and increase their purchases of Canadian goods.

Trudeau acknowledged the support of individual Canadians during an event at Parliament earlier this week.

“There’s a bit of a patriotic boost going on these past few days,” he said.

Trump and Trudeau are locked in a tiff over tariffs after the president last week said he would impose penalties on steel and aluminum imports.

The squabble escalated over the weekend at the G7 meeting of economic powers in Quebec when Trudeau said in a news conference that Canada would not be “pushed around” by the US and called the tariffs “insulting.”

Trump heard the remarks as he flew in Air Force One to his summit in Singapore with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and withdrew from a statement issued by the G7 on trade.

He also blasted Trudeau in a tweet, calling him “very dishonest & weak.”

My mother just cancelled her trip to Florida. She'll go to Cuba instead. Funny thing is that she doesn't like Trudeau, but what Trump did really infuriated her.

 

Funny, you mention this, I have properties in canada, and distant links through paternal side....and was just there in May for spring planting.

Canada does 80%+ overall trade with US....or approx. $$1.5bln daily....the Walmart in the city there was overflowing almost....sure there may be spats and disagreements, but overall there won't be total boycotts of anything.

The US gets what they deserve! Anyone who starts a completely unfounded trade war with lies and false claims like Trump and where afterwards his followers spread more lies and even come up with really smiling accusations like not bowing to the will of Trump, hates the US and loves China or even tell really that Trump did not start. .. he does not deserve it otherwise!

What did Trump just say? Next up are German cars! OK, except that it will cause another reaction from the whole EU ... Trump still does not realize that he has to deal with the whole EU and has to talk with the whole EU ... Trump knows a simple truth about that evil German automaker not, or if he knows them, then he hides them:

Who is the largest exporter of cars "Made in the USA by US workers in US plants"? General Motors, Ford? Chrysler? Laughter .... it's Mercedes and BMW!
Mercedes and BMW are making cars in the USA in 2 factories and are directly hiring tens of thousands of Americans and so many more from the factories' suppliers and they have exported cars from the USA to the world for $ 10 billion!
And if someone here again on the 10% tariff on imports of US cars in the EU upset ... ehm ... every German car that was made in the US and goes to the EU, there are also 10% tariff on it!

 

Trump manages to turn everyone against him ... even if they dislike their own politicians fighting the fight with Trump!
Ds is bad for the USA, but it can get worse. If the former, close and longtime friends and allies of the USA join forces with countries like China and Russia in a frontrun thing against the US, then it will be worse for the US!
He has annoyed Russia, China, the EU, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
If Trump keeps doing this, then he can only rely on his powerful new friends and terrorist regimes like Philipines, Fidji Islands etc!

 

Trump seem to get along better with dictators than he does with duly elected heads of democratic states.

 

It would be more beneficial if both countries eliminated the barriers and tariffs as Trump wants. Canada doesn't want free trade. I guess a boycott helps something in their minds.

 

Trudeau waited for Trump to be in the air before he started to whine and pretend that he was tough.

If you can't say something directly to someone's face, you are nothing but a punk.

 

Maybe the $.76 dollar is a factor in their vacation plans.

 

If Trump responded by not allowing Canadians to come into America for medical procedures, I'd fall out of my chair laughing...

No, not a complete boycott. But i suspect a lot of Canadians will marginally change their shopping choices.... maybe avoid starbucks and california wine.... maybe no disneyworld. If i were canadian, i would do that

Expect Canada's Tourism to drop. Boycotting their Ice Cream and Dairy products. Their Lumber.

Don't expect those Expos Games to be sold out either.

Lets really do this trade war and we wont have any problem telling you to go to Cuba for medical treatments and body parts.

I'm all for not sharing any of our tech or American Made products with Canada.

I say lets charge 3 times the amount to come to the US.
