The president of Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain with more than 1,600 restaurants and $4 billion in revenue, has come out against same-sex marriage.

"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,'" Dan Cathy, the company's president and chief operating officer, said in a recent radio interview. "I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about."

In an interview with the Baptist Press published this week, Cathy doubled down on his stance against same-sex unions.

"Guilty as charged," Cathy said. "We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that."

"We know that it might not be popular with everyone," he added, "but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

The company, founded by Dan's father, Truett Cathy, in 1946, has a history of "unapologetic social conservatism," as the Daily Caller put it. All 1,608 of its stores are closed on Sundays, a day of rest for most Christians.

According to Queerty.com, the WinShape Foundation—Chick-fil-A's charitable arm—donated more than $1.1 million between 2003 and 2008 to anti-LGBT groups, doubling that amount to $2 million in 2009.

Earlier this year, students at Northeastern University protested a proposal to put a Chick-fil-A on its Boston campus because of the company's history of supporting anti-gay organizations. The school abandoned its plan.

I for one find it fairly funny that a restaurant chain is playing marriage politics.

Last I knew the only thing chic-fil-a did was expand american waist lines.

What sticks out most here is the idea that these people believe the bible dictates american marriage contracts. Last time I checked...everyone else got married to. Atheists included. So...are they just brain dead?

    doesn't sound anti-gay to me

sounds like he's simply addressing creating rules/laws based upon how one has sex

if you are unaware of the restaurant they close on Sundays; guess why.

They are also closed Sunday for similar religious reasons. Perhaps you should condemn them for that practice as well.

Their food is really good...way better than mcDonalds. I mean the chicken nuggets at Chick=fil-a actually have taste. I don't know why the outrage. It's not like many other businesses aren't coming out pro-homo. so one doesn't. Your problem is.........?

Anti same sex marriage is not the same thing as anti gay.

It's very likely the same thing in most cases and certainly close enough.

Well, now I'm doubling-down against spending my hundreds of dollars per year there.

They don't want to serve the public, they want to control/manipulate it. I'm NOT going to pay that guy MORE money, so he can take it and play POLITICS with it.

    That's BS.

    I'll cook my own chicken.

Ah yes, nothing says the loving grace of Jesus like crappy fried chicken sandwiches and condemnation of same sex marriage served together, dripping grease.

Don't like the moron Christian extremists who own this chain of restaurants? Don't eat there. You will probably live longer. Let the inbred idiots be as ignorant as they want to be, just don't buy their garbage if you don't like them.

And for those of you who don't want to eat at pro-democrat, pro-homo bsiness establishments. Avoid JCP, Kohls, Progressive insurance, McDonalds, Absolut vodka, movies starring or directed by left leaning actors such as hanks, sarandon, scorsese, and others too numerous to mention.

You can split hairs all you wish; if an organization is anti-homosexual... I want little/nothing to do with them.

    Nuance THAT... if you will.

Claiming god is the one who decides upon who should or shouldn't marry...is as ignorant as it comes.

Perhaps you should read the actually article, they also donate to anit-LGBT charities.

    not at all

I've eaten there and they serve males and females and males and females work there. There is no sex discrimination; care to try again?

Chick Fil-A food is much better than McDonald's or the typical fast food chain. Plus they let their employees take off on Sunday - that's more than you can say about the average major corporation.

The gay mafia needs to get a life and give the homosexual McCarthyism a rest.

Gay people have every right to eat there. Disapproving of homosexual behavior is not the same as "hating gays". That's what the homo-fascists refuse to except.

After I heard about this several months ago I purposely started eating at Chick Fil-A just to spite liberals  And I'll continue to do it, I'm glad they're not afraid to take a stand for their beliefs even in the face of persecution.

I don't really like fast food chicken chains, Chick-fil-A, KFC and Church's all included. So it's nice to know I will forever be boycotting such a place. lol

And good for the students on that campus who protested the school from putting one of their chains on the school grounds. It's great to see people actually using the boycotting system and making these companies hear our voices through our wallets.

It's sad that they only did it at the behest of their liberal professors and Jon Stewart.
