Like all cities, there are bad areas with high numbers of Blacks & Hispanics doing crime up to 10 times out of proportion that raise the rates for everyone.

The best way to understand crime is match the bad areas with their demographics.

What is it about Chicago that drives the people there to kill each other so much? Lots of other places have much easier access to guns and they don't kill at the same rate. Are they not capable of living a civilized life?

If your child draws on the walls, and all you do is hide the crayons, you haven't taught them not to draw on walls but to find out where the crayons are hidden or to use a pen. Why can the people of Vermont be awash in guns but have nowhere near the same problems? If population density is the problem, fix that. If it's poverty or lack of adult supervision fix that. Hiding the crayons doesn't fix the cause and it keeps those who can draw inside the lines from using them, too.

Well 2/3rds of Chicago is minority with almost 80% of the homicides from the Black population and most of the rest from the Hispanic. That says loads.

 

It follows the fight for the control of drug market and it's money and those needing to feed their addictions through crime. Same in any big or small population center that has groups struggling for market control and have the collateral drug related crime, including places like the EU, SA, and...

Meanwhile in Chicago: Confirmed kill 183 for the year with the city approaching 1000 total shot for 2017. All of this is a Democratically controlled city, a sanctuary city and one with very strict gun control. Go figure.
