Yes, schools are open, but thousands of teachers are not going to work.

Did you say you were in Hillsborough county? 600 teachers there didn't go to work.

600 Hillsborough teachers call out sick as COVID cases surge in Tampa Bay
    https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/...ll-out-sick-as-covid-cases-surge-in-tampa-bay
Hillsborough County expects to see about 2,500 call-outs this week compared to 5,000 during the COVID-19 delta peak in the Tampa Bay area.

In Pinellas County, the teacher’s union tells ABC Action News 500 teachers called out of work Wednesday morning. The normal amount is 300-400.

The call-outs are forcing districts to shuffle staff and call in substitutes, as they work to recruit more employees.

In other words, you have just admiitted that your statement that they are "ALL Dems" was based on Unfounded Speculation (with no actual proof).
And, it is Extremely Likely (about 99.999%) that the statement "these are ALL Dems" is Dead WRONG.
Glad to see you admit that.
    Baby steps.:salute:

No one said they are not open. The point is that thousands of teachers are not going to work because they fear for their lives.

No, Pasco county. In areas that are not overrun by rabid progressives schools work properly. Many teachers in our schools live in our community. The benefit is that they are part of the community and are less inclined to screw their neighbors.

Ok. Pretty much the same area, so the situation is probably very similar. Do you have a hard time admitting that you have no idea how many teachers called in sick there?

Its the same across the State. Besides, Hillsborough county it pretty much evenly split red/blue

I don’t, but my local school works and kids go to schools without a problem. We haven’t received any communication from the school regarding omicron or difficulties with staffing (except for school bus drivers).

    Not really.
Property taxes are different. School boards are different. School admins are different.

...I'm treating you EXACTLY how you treat myself and your fellow posters. That it bothers you enough to comment ain't my problem.

If you care to discuss the topic, feel free. Otherwise ...

Well Regan was able to replace the permanently furloughed workers with military air controllers. I do not believe that the Biden has a resource like that to tap for teachers. In addition, I can't see Trump supporters wanting Biden to import foreigners to fill the gap.

My district is pretty close to the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and we pretty much do exactly what they do. We just got a mail from the head of HR and we're still expected back on Monday, same as we always were. The only thing that's mildly different is that we're gonna wear some "surgical masks" which will be provided for us by the district. We've pretty much been wearing 'em anyways - I think. Maybe these are higher-grade masks, I dunno. No discussion of going back to remote teaching. Not even any gossip about my district suggesting such a thing although we have been talking about this story. I should look up what LAUSD is planning, if anything.

EDIT TO ADD: Ah, HERE it is. They're starting school back on the 11th instead of the 10th. I'm guessing Monday will be so everyone has time to submit their Covid papers?

I rather doubt anyone short of Messianic status could find anyone, foreign or otherwise, to fill in at Chicago schools. I've read stories on teacher forums. I'm in a tough school so I know the ropes but I wouldn't teach there on a bet.

    I see.
    It's all good.:handshake:
    Anyway, back on-topic:

While I understand that you may disagree with Mayor Lightfoot politically, are the constant remarks that reek of Heightism (based in Lightfoot's Diminutive Stature) really necessary?

She is short of stature and mind. I dunno about necessary, but it's fun. The lady is a racist moron. She says 99% of the criticism of her is based on sexism or racism. I guess that means 99% of the Chicago Teachers Union members must be racist and/or sexist now. That's somewhere around 22K people there. You can find a breakdown of the Chicago teacher demographics HERE. It'll be under "Employees".

    Teacher Racial Breakdowns
    African-American: 20.7%
    Asian: 4.2%
    Hawaiian/Pacific Islander: 0.0%
    Hispanic: 22.3%
    Native American: 0.3%
    White: 48.8%
    Multi-Racial: 1.4%
    Unknown: 2.2%
    Total Teachers: 22,317

    Last updated January 2022.

That's a lot of racist and sexist POC there, Lori. I guess I could be more explicit and call her a mental midget. It would be more accurate. Or a Professional Pygmy. I dunno. Either works.

She also needs a serious fashion makeover. I mean, look for clothes that fit, idiot:
Some people wear clothes. Her clothes wear Lori.

Also, I certainly recall numerous expressions of the looks of politicians here. You've engaged in it yourself. Start a thread saying you'll stop doing so, post the link in your sig to it and invite others to join it. I'll be maybe the 8th to join.

Why do they fear for their lives with the Omicron is not deadly if you have been vax'd, no more than normal influenza and transmission from children almost unheard of?

This is my county, note the uptick in cases but no deaths

Biden has nothing to do with it, local school boards do and some have offered retired teachers full salary while they collect their pensions if they will come in and fill in.

Geez, I discussed this with @The Mello Guy a couple months ago? Yeah, we get tested every week if you don't have a Covid Card. So do the kids in the sports/contact groups. We were asked to submit a digital copy to the DO sometime around late August/early September.

I asked one of the VP's how many staff members are tested every week, and she said it was under ten, probably under five. At my school, there's a bit over a hundred staff members - teachers, admins, custodial, secretaries, the whole shmear. That's just MY school, so take it for what it's worth.

It's still won't solve the logistics and numbers issue. But, let's give it a go. It's a massive undertaking.

Wow. Not that it will prevent you from catching the WuFlu, but Florida teachers are prohibited from getting vaccinated?

Someone did say that - I'm surprised you didn't notice:

So, Florida law prohibits teachers from getting vaccinated?

    I was unaware of that...
