UH.huh. Bullcrap. That "list" is a bunch of made up, euphemistic, emotion-based NONSENSE. MArriage confers a TAX BREAK, and THAT'S IT, as far as "rights".

Chick-Fil-a does more "good things', than every LGBT group put together, in terms of REAL CHARITY.

Maybe if your tried to find God in your life you would understand the depths of compassion. It usually requires humility.

    ARrrrgh!

I love ya, but you're gonna drive me bonkers.

I am not saying that these things cannot confer with a civil contract, but I'll give you a few examples because we see this often on the other side of the firm.

Without the title of "marriage" it is required that you have a legal document in order to make end of life decisions for your partner. Else it defaults to the parents or adult child. Without a revocable living trust, the partner would also not be able to use the individual's funds to place them into managed care, etc. Without a business succession plan and if a partner should die the business that two partners built will go into litigation with the family of the deceased.

LOL, I doubt spending millions to deny same sex couples equal rights was a sign of compassion.

Charity (kindness) is not limited to Christians.

Utter nonsense. A person can give POWER OF ATTORNEY to whom he/she chooses, which can ALSO INCLUDE end of life issues, which must only be specified in a legal will.

My longtime friend/attorney will handle my affairs if needed, unless she dies first, then vice versa, and I'll have to get someone else.

Which is exactly what I said, other people must seek an attorney's assistance.

And, btw, a simple Power of Attorney will not hold where there is conflict, neither will a simple will if challenged. Succession planning and Revocable Living Trusts are highly necessary now with so many baby boomers approaching the age where managed care and end of life planning needs to be considered.

End of Life decision authority can be assigned to anyone a person chooses. I know, I just signed the paper giving me the ability to make those decision for my mom. Power of attorney and a last wishes statement (revocable trust?) is all that is needed.

I don't see what the problem was. Your own article even says that the protest was peaceful!

You are WRONG. Marriage has MANY benefits, including (but not limited to) power of attorney, end of life decisions, even things like hospital visitation.

Where there is a CONFLICT, all bets are off, no matter what the papers say, and that includes marriage.

What one lawyer giveth, another may taketh away....

    Longer life, etc.

I am referring to LEGAL ADVATAGES, CONFERRED by the GOVERNEMT. Those would be the mythological "1400 rights", which is complete nonsense. A TAX BREAK is the only government-conferred advatage to married folks.

Even WITH all that...if the family fights it, they will often win. Been there and done that. My cousin's partner (of 30+ years) was, against his EXPLICIT wishes as spelled out in his will, buried in the "family plot" (of a family that, upon being told he was homosexual, disowned him!), instead of in the plot they had prepared. When his partner was dying, it took the threat of going to court before my cousin was allowed to visit him in the hospital. (He JUST made it in time to say goodbye, by less than two hours.)
