Should followers of Jesus have a positive impact on every area of society? Absolutely. The light of our lives and the light of our message should illuminate our surroundings. Our good deeds and our biblically based values should disseminate love and truth. At the same time, we are not called to take over society and impose our faith on the nation. There is a vast difference between making a positive impact and imposing a theocracy.

Of course, whatever we do together as followers of Jesus will likely be misjudged by our critics…. … Then in the 1990s we were accused of being ‘theocrats.’ Then it was ‘dominionists’ (though I think most who accused us could not have properly defined the term …). But behold! They have a NEW word for us now: ‘Christian Nationalism.’ And the purpose of this word? It is to bludgeon, bully, intimidate and keep us OUT of the public square. It is to shame us from being activists.”

That’s why, in the days ahead, we will hear dire warnings from the left about a nefarious plot by Christian conservatives to take over the nation. The warnings will be so shrill that they will border on hysteria. …

The hatred and intolerance of the secular left toward monotheistic believers is becoming more shrill. The hysteria they use to try to respond to us would be laughable if it weren’t such a serious matter. The tools they use to try to bludgeon us into silence in the public square are abusive and done with the intent of objectifying and dehumanizing believers.

Some of the objectifying hate and intolerance and the hysteria inducing terms regarding believers living our beliefs in our daily lives such as Christian dominionism and Christian nationalism have been seen here.

I agree. We can be agents for change in the world without even trying to dominate it. We can preach the Scriptures and live our daily lives accordingly with the free exercise there of without advocating for a theocracy we don’t even want. We can vote and lobby and stand and speak freely using our speech, assembly, petition rights without calling for Christian dominionism which we don’t even advocate for.

However, we continue to drift toward a theocracy, don't we?

We have a supreme court that is energized by following their religious beliefs. We even have Christian(?) justices declaring what must be attacked to move America to conform to their personal religious beliefs.

We have states working to shut teachers up and remove books from libraries.

We have coaches turning into prelates, teaching their teams the state affirmed religion.

These are all recent moves that have nothing to do with individuals following their own religion - they have to do with Christians realizing gains in political domination.

YOU may not want that, but it IS happening and it isn't because of what nonChristians are advocating.

    Lol no.
it was supreme Court that's following the Constitution that's not a religious view that's the supreme law of our country.
that's the state's job. Teachers are agents of the government if they don't want to do that they should find another job. Libraries are property of the state they get to decide what's there and what isn't.

Do you really hate democracy that much?
    What!
so? How have we moved towards theocracy?
I want the states to be in charge of the school and to tell them what they can and can't do that's their job. I want the people to be able to say what is in their libraries it's there library defend the servants that run it must obey.

What you stated here even though I'm not that hardcore of a Christian is it absolutely a great thing for our country. Teachers absolutely should shut their mouths and teach you what they've been failing to teach for years. Good on the states for taking action against them.

Well you said we're moving closer to Christian theocracy.

    No we aren't.

Having to correct for decades of hedonism is not moving toward a Christian theocracy it's moving just a little bit more towards self-control.

Then you pointed out ways in which we ARE moving in that direction of Christian control over our lives.

All you're doing for cover is claiming that your religion is justification for making laws against people's private lives, for ordering that teachers NOT teach modern science, and that the state should prevent students from reading books on topics that Christians don't like.

So, yep - you advocate Christian theocracy. And, you even explain why.

The right wing used to talk about individual liberties. What happened???

The country is becoming ever more pagan or secular, not more religious. You all simply see any desire to hold on to history, tradition, family, and values we already had /still have as imposing theocracy and dominionist ideas when nothing could be further from the truth.

The secular left lies and conflates the return to what we had and the protection of what we have left as Christian nationalism/dominionist when it’s a matter of maintaining the free exercise there of in our lives along with the rest of the 1st, 2nd, 9th, and 10th amendments to our constitution.

No, that is NOT what you want.

I'd ENCOURAGE you and others to hold onto their traditions, family and values.

But, that's not what YOU want.

You want to force YOUR ideas on other individuals using the power of government, the law, and the penalties that only government can impose.

    Do you see the difference?

So somehow within your persecution complex you've fabricated a conspiracy where I am denouncing the first amendment?

    You are mistaken.
Umm...I want teachers to teach science. I want them to quit using their job to preach their shitty little wine religion.
The only explanation I can come up with for why you think this is you have no idea what theocracy is.

The government isn't an individual. Teachers are agents of the government.

They have no liberty to be a government agent and teach their religious beliefs (wokeism).

Perhaps you want a woke theocracy.

I think it's more along the lines of Christianity interferes with their religion. They just pretend it isn't a religion.

Environmental doomsday, veganism and electric cars. If you run into a devotee of one of these cults you'll see how insufferable they really are.

Believe me, traveling 150 miles south down I-5 from here or 150 miles west along HW299 and we see all the above here in California. It is a religion to them in Davis/Sacramento and Eureka/Arcata though the latter are more tolerant than the former and it gets worse in the Bay Area.

Secular progressive left people have either no standards or double standards so your quote fits them perfectly.

When we think about religion we have to think about pork, halal etc
Religion goes far beyond worshiping a deity

    What is religion.

Religion is best characterized as the non-empirical homologue of ideological beliefs, by contrast with science or philosophy the cognitive interest is no longer primary, but gives way to the evaluative interest.

Acceptance of a religious belief is then commitment to its implementation in action in a sense in which acceptance of a philosophical belief is not.

Or, to put it more accurately a philosophical belief becomes a religious belief insofar as it is made the basis of a commitment in action.

Religious ideas may be speculative in philosophical sense, but the attitude toward them is not speculative in the sense that well "I wonder if it would make sense to look at it this way?"

Religious ideas then may be conceived as answers to the 'problems of meaning' in both senses discussed above.

On the one hand they concern the cognitive definition of the situation for action as a whole, including the cathetic and evaluative levels of interest in the situation.

This they share with ideological beliefs.

On the other hand, however, they also must include the problems of 'meaning' in the larger philosophical sense of the meaning of the objects of empirical cognition, of nature, human nature, so the vicissitudes of human life etc from their point of view. durkhiem

What a load of mindless gibberish. It is the Religious right pusing theocracy.... .. and they love worship of the state more than Blue - love increasing Gov't power more than blue but, this has nothing to do with theocracy and everything to do with Utilitarianism - "Collectivism"

    Collectivism is not theocracy.

Big difference between Christians and Fake Christians.
MAGA are Fake Christians. Christ wouldn't have turned families away at the border. Christ wouldn't have put his own welfare above the hungry and homeless.

I agree it's becoming more religious just not Christianity it's environmentalism veganism stateism. These are religions because they're not based on fact.
