My graduate work was in psychology.

In any case, my guess is that a majority of psychologist today would choose "fear" over "indifference" as the opposite of love.

A few people, notably Elie Wiesel, championed the "indifference" meme.

I think that to be a stretch...and I think "fear" is the better choice. But if you think "indifference" is the better choice, go with it. In any case, I know of no one other that William who thinks that the opposite of love is "to kill."

But there is no need of organized Christianity to go direct.

 

Technically you're right but throw human nature in the mix and not many if any will continue to follow after God of left on their own.

 

So the individual must choose, as a practical matter from among the many, which of the Christian theologies, Christology's, and creeds work for them in continuing to go direct.

A person could peruse Frank Mead's Handbook of Denominations in the United States and try a few out to see what works for them.

 

Or better yet, read the bible and attend the church that you believe teaches thr bible closest to your own conviction.

 

Mead can still help a person a whole lot in finding the one they are convicted to attend.

That is the problem with "believing" (disguise code for "guessing"). It often is totally wrong.

My undergrad work was in three majors: Economics, religion, and philosophy. The last two were because I went to a religious college...and damn near every student had enough credits in religion and philosophy to count as a major.

My grad work WAS in philosophy.

If your blind guesses about the existence of a god and about the nature of that god are as mistaken as your blind guesses about my college studies...you are shooting blanks.

It's still your extrapolation of what you think Jesus meant.

At the very least, that leaves a ton of room for people to disagree. Let's remember that Christians don't even agree on what the Bible DOES say, so extrapolating what the Bible does NOT say is definitely shakey ground.

Abortion has been around for a lot longer than 2000 years. And, Jesus said nothing about it, though he said a lot about behavior between persons and other related areas.
