What non-violent criminals are you talking about? I would probably agree with you that just plain users should not go to prison. But users who are thieves should. Go ahead nd ruin your life just keep hit to yourself. I would be for the legalization of most any drug just do not put me on the hook for treatment or anything else involved with said drug. And I feel the same about alcohol, I get some people become addicted but they are not forced to start. The did that all on their own. Prostitution would be one other thing that I think should be legal, what is really the difference between taking a girl out on the town and blowing a couple hundred on her or just giving her money up front, I do not see how this is any of my business. If a prostitute could just get a government permit to set up shop and get tested and could do her thing legally out in the open, how is she not better off then being controlled by some pimp in a back alley.
No, we say it and do it better than any other country. Would you like to tell us what country is better than the US in terms of human rights and freedom in a diverse culture? You tried Canada and Scandinavia and that didn't turn out well.
Not really, because I stand by my statement that we say we're the greatest country as the "land of the free" and yet things like extremely high incarceration rates for example, say otherwise. Worse is that many of those people did nothing to warrant being jailed. We say we're the best but our education system isn't even in the top 15 worldwide compared to other countries. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/02/15/u-s-students-internationally-math-science/
What is it with every racist coward who thinks that seeing one black person do something suddenly means its okay or it no longer represents slavery? Do you think hiding behind a token black guy makes you sound better?
Not all of them, and smoking a joint isn't a crime unless you're a big gov pharma shill who sees it as an affront to their rights to earn income on frankendrugs.
Just the trite old racist crap about how American oppressed should feel "lucky" they don't have it worse.....absolute CRAP. It usually goes hand in hand with the trite old sexist crap about how women in other countries have it worse so American women should feel "lucky". ALWAYS spoken by someone who has never been oppressed or discriminated against, or had their rights impaired...
What is your definition of "BS crimes"...? And, how many criminals ever serve the full-term of their sentences? . And THAT, in turn, leads to runaway repeat-criminality and every other form of recidivism! If you think a particular crime is "BS", then change the law! That's what we did here in Colorado, regarding both the medical and recreational use and sale of marijuana. Many 'non-victim/non-violence' crimes can and probably should be decriminalized -- BUT -- when we make lists of laws that should no longer be on the books, we'd better be very careful or we'll create worse problems than the ones we started out with in the first place. And slavery? Ha! Go back and check the history of slavery, which goes back literally to the dawn of civilization! And nowhere was it practiced earlier or more consistently than in AFRICA -- Black Africans enslaving other Black Africans. Thousands of years after Black Africans began the practice of slavery, along came Islam, which was only too happy to embrace the concept and keep it thriving right up to the present day....
So should we not put people in jail? How would you fix that? Would it be like one white guy, one black guy, one transspecies, etc when handing down sentences? The incarceration is not the problem. The crime is.
In fairness, this is CNN London. Nima Elbagir is a real deal investigative reporter. She gets in the **** and reports the facts. I have immense respect for her.
In the minds of liberals I'm sure it does. Wood, the sun, cotton, iron, and the word "plantation" should all be stricken from history as they all contributed. The northern army was full of social justice warriors who marched into the south and hand carried each slave tenderly into the land of milk and honey. Meanwhile in 2017 the flags of African countries represents slavery.
So we can chalk this up as another failure of the Obama administration and Clinton state dept. Yes Gadhafi was a tyrant dictator but tell me is Libya in a better place now that he is gone? the Obama administration and Clinton state dept. created a vacuum with the removal of Gadhafi and that vacuum was filled by elements worse then Gadhafi was
Anyone involved with the sale and distribution of crack cocaine (that kills most addicts in 5 years), and meth (the kills most addicts in 10 years), is just as evil as a company that knowingly makes baby toys with lead and mercury. Let them all suffer.
You guys see one black person with the flag and suddenly think everything is absolved. It's no different than the "I can't be racist, I have a black friend" cop out.
