Hmmm ... I actually don't think thats likely. Even if we get a runaway greenhouse effect the earth will eventually rebalance itself as it has done in the past, its just that we will have caused major environmental disruption, and most likely mass extinctions, in the interim.

 

Which proxy record are you talking about, ice core? Stomata? Stomata show changes greater than 50ppm in the recent past. Certain stomata records show over 400 ppmv within the last 2000 years. Plant stomata-derived CO2 reconstructions indicate that CO2 levels of 315-345 ppmv have not been uncommon throughout the Holocene.

 

That 's a moot point. The human race will be gone long before it happens as you say.....before it " rebalances " it self.
Btw, "rebalancing itself " has nothing to do with making the world inhabitable for us. Venus is in a state of equilibrium if a million years of little change is the measuring stick.

 

Of course the environment is not static but if you are trying to use that as support to proceed as we are, you are being disingenuous. Plants and animals can exist only within a narrow band of what has been the history of the environment on this planet. Things have to be done to preserve the narrow band or we will be a narrow stripe on the side of the Grand Canyon.

I had a guy on this forum tell me he was an expert becasue he had been debating a subject for years. So, checking the thermometer everyday makes you an expert on climate ? Unless you have formal training in a related field, are presently doing research at an accredited university or in a related field and belong to a group like the AAAS so your opinions are peer reviewed, your credibility in denying climate change is null. There is enough crappola on the Internet to agree with a preconceived notion that any can claim they have enough support. That support just comes from made up information

Grew up in Huntington Beach, Orange county CA. Been back on very many occasions. Virtually all of Southern CA. is and has pretty much always been desert. In L.A. it's hard to tell, but get on I-10 and start driving out towards Palm Springs and you see the transition from your fake, stolen water green world to the Desert that it should be. If you guy's had'nt started robbing water out of the Colorado river all those years ago L.A. and all of SoCal would populated by a bunch of little dirt water towns. Phoenix, Tuscon, Las Vegas would be in the same boat. And that deep lake, that would be Lake Tahoe if I'm correct. I might just know a bit more about it than you're willing to admit. My preference is up around Mt. Shasta. Gorgeous country. If only we could kick all the Communists out, California might be worth living in again.

Why don't you just make a list of all the universities in the free world whose science departments are NOT promoting climate change. Being that deniers are anti govt. . too, dissing NASA and all the defense department's come easy. Scientific discovery is about consensus over time, not about a few wack jobs in an unrelated field. One of you guys claimed here to have a degree in science. When pressed, it was political science. Wow. No, a few publications mean nothing. Name a few institutes of higher learning with science departments that question climate change.

A usual routine are the "comical" quotes attributed to NASA in some right wing article. In reality, NASA has a website. Just go to it for real info on climate change. Trying to argue against the shear numbers of legit organization's makes one look a little foolish.
