You know it's this special treatment that recruits people for the conservative movement. They see hypocrisy and they are fed up with it. By all means do your black power salutes... but then don't be a hypocrite and complain when whites do nazi salutes that symbolises white power... apply same across the board.

 

You can't expect your false equivalency, to be accepted as truth. Those people in the image were not racists. They took a bold stand against racial discrimination, when they raised their fists. The white Olympian on the stand, Peter Norman, participated in the protest, partly because he had seen the racism against Aboriginies in his native Australia, and he knew that African-Americans were receiving similar treatment.

He jeopardized and ultimately sacrificed his career in solidarity with his black brothers and they provided eulogies and served as pall bearers at his funeral. Hardly sounds like a bunch of racists. Your mischaracterization of the meaning of their raised fists in protest against a system that abused and discriminated against them is perverse.

 

I'm sure he meant well... but it's time you people start to understand what these salutes symbolises.... it is called the BLACK POWER SALUTE and represents BLACK POWER. What happens when white people throw WHITE POWER salutes.... Twitter goes stupid. They are divisive and the double standard needs to stop, it doesn't matter if you have been discriminated against in your life... white people suffer from discrimination too and it does not give them the right to use these salutes.

First of all, I take offence at you telling me what I ought "start to understand what these salutes symbolises". Who are you to instruct me? I was there. I lived the era. I gave that sign myself when I was a university student with, "Keep the faith!" or "Right on!". Apparently, you were nowhere in sight or even born.

But you are now telling me that I was expressing a symbol of "Black Power" with racist convictions? Who are you to tell me what I (and every student) was thinking? And, I can suppose, you think that Jane Fonda was telling the Vietnamese in Hanoi that they (as yellow people) and she (as a member of the white race) should be subjugated by Black people?

Once you can accept that people who saluted Hitler murdered millions in pursuit of a pure race (because that's what they stood for) and people like these guys with raised fists liberated millions in pursuit of equal rights (because that's what they stood for), you'll understand why these Olympians with raised fits are heroes, not racists. I do understand that some think it is fine because there was a time when blacks WERE POWERLESS, but what you don't see is that they were only powerless in western white majority countries... there are and were many other countries where blacks are the majority and ARE NOT nor were they powerless...you need to change your lens and try to use a more equal bar....you want everyone to be treated equally right?
