Well if I have to pay for your million dollar school I don't want to hear any complaining about some meals for poor kids.
It is very relevant to the thread. People are complaining about paying for other peoples food while I have to pay for the entire school. Please. Sell that BS to someone else who doesn't know better.
I'm not the one complaining about paying for poor kids food. I will happily do that and I will happily pay for your schools. I am just bring up the hypocrisy of those complaining about feeding the poor kids in school.
You are using that as a cop-out to the topic. We are discussing the quality and health of foods served in public school. If you'd rather not discuss it, why are you participating in this thread? The way the nation functions right now, the taxpayers are pay for many things for the "poor", that the taxpayers themselves can barely afford for themselves. We could bring up 30 others things that each of us as taxpayers pays for, for the others, but this topic is about the school's food service.
Agreed, however, it's also my tax money to is used to fund things like a fire department. If I never have to call them or use them, can I ask for my money back? It's a public service available to ALL as if public school. However, this discussion is about school lunch which is NOT available to ALL for free. It's only subsidized for the poor. That's part of the problem, some things are only available to the poor, while the rest are left to to make up the difference, and yet, they whine about the quality when we're all, as taxpayers, stretched to the limit. If someone doesn't like the school food, pack lunch at home.
No, because the fire department is almost like an insurance. you pay for it all the time, but use it only when you have to.
If I may illuminate the ignorance of your position. 1) It is not about paying for the school, much less paying for the food. It is accepted in the OP that we pay for such things. 2) The issue is that we do not feel it wise to waste that money by spending too lavishly. This would be to relegate normal food as being unfit, and having to pay more for "special" food. 3) The proper analogy for what you have erroneously gotten your anarchist mind stuck on would be to have the politicians indulge in wasteful spending on other school issues, such as cutting-edge architectural designs, or excessive administration jobs, etc. While I believe you have no kids ...... most HS students do not ..... I even more highly doubt that you pay diddly in taxes.
Besides all that, the DOE and it's huge volumes of federal regulations governing local schools, massive transfers from the federal treasury to local schools, including the school lunch program is unconstitutional.
Their school meal may be the only healthy food they get from one day to the next. It shouldn't be adding to the problem. If they don't eat it, then that's less calorie intake so it's still a plus for them.
I support healthy school lunches. I have no kids but Im sick of looking at all you fatties and your fatty kids.
Shut it down, it's unconstitutional anyway. They cannot offer healthy food, there is not enough money to serve them Michelle's favorite meal of steak and Arugula. Parents should pack the children's lunch until they are old enough to pack their own. As far as parents who claim they can't afford it, they get food stamps and that should be used to pack their lunches.
I don't even think the government should be feeding kids at lunch except for the ones whose parents are such pathetic providers that they cannot afford to provide it themselves. And if they are that pathetic - then the government should be knocking on their door and finding out why these loser parents cannot properly feed their children. And if parents reading this are offended by that...good.
