I wasn't going to say anything, just let the left hang themselves with it.

And even though the OP was based off a parody site, there were many in the thread basically parroting the same view.

I've always thought that was crazy. And, it's even crazier when you find out that the celebrity usually gets the widget for free. They are literally putting real diamonds and other high ticket items in those gift bags at all those celebrity events.

I think it is a subliminal thing. The consumer doesn't think "I will buy this product because somebody famous said I should." But when you see the product the admiration you have for the celebrity gives you a poaitive feeling for the product.

It can work on multiple levels. One of them is what you describe - a subconscious positive association. On another level it can be a very conscious positive association. On yet another level it can just be getting people's attention for long enough for them to get your product's name in their head. That alone can help sales.

Some people like to think that their behaviour is purely rational & thought out, but the subconscious & emotions can play a bigger role than they think.

Companies spend a fortune on researching how people react to different kinds of marketing. They don't do it for fun, just as they don't pay millions in sponsorship for fun.

Does anybody think that Michael Phelps had pressure?

    What about Katie Ledecky?

GOATS that get it done, and don't let down (and disgrace) the entire country.

If Biles was just "Another Olympian with a chance at Gold", that would be one thing.

But, Biles was THE Face of the Olymipics (for the USA).

A Thoroughly Unforgivable (and Shockingly Prideless) Performance.

If you are Biles--That CAN'T Happen! Period.

And, even in the rest of the Olympic Gymnastics, there are alot of girls under massive pressure.

One obvious example is Russian Team Captain Angelia Melnikova.

She came to Tokyo with the weight of the world on her shoulders.

She already has a Gold and a Bronze and has qualified for 3 of 4 individual event finals.

    Melnikova is ALL CLASS.

With Biles Disgraceful Exit, I am pulling for the Russians now.

Especially, that Classy Young Lady (Melnikova):
