From Alexis de Tocqueville's book 'Democracy in America' (1835) he wrote speaking of American men by saying, "They do not attend to the things said to them, because they are always fully engrossed with the things they are doing. For indeed few men are idle in democratic nations; life is past in the midst of noise and excitement, and men are so engaged in acting that little remains to them for thinking. I would especially remark that they are not only employed, but they are passionately devoted to their employments. They are always in action, and each of their actions absorbs their faculties; the zeal which they display in business puts out the enthusiasm they might otherwise entertain for idea." So if you want a real sense of the decay of America, contrast de Tocqueville's "they are always fully engrossed with the things they are doing" with that to the homeless settlements in Chicago, Baltimore, New York, San Francisco, and other Democrat-run cities with substantial unemployment and astonishing levels of crime. Consider de Tocqueville's "They are not only employed, but they are passionately devoted to their employments," contrasted with the lack of energy, excitement, or passion found in all too many teachers' union-crippled inner-city schools. The rise of the welfare state has been a disaster, and the people who are paying the highest price for these bad ideas are the poor. The Biden administration has doubled down on the idea that work is virtually irrelevant and that people have no responsibility for themselves. The Left wants to make poor people comfortable living in poverty where they live from cradle to grave at the behest of the government. The government under Biden is willing to pay you more to do nothing than you can earn by going to work. And to think there are liberal media types as well as democrat leaders claiming that we Republicans and Donald Trump are trying to destroy our democracy? LMFAO!
And, Dems also need to rediscover real friendship with folks who view the world differently. Take Danny Glover's love of Mel Gibson Friends don’t cancel friends. “Anyone can defend you when you’re right. It takes a friend to defend you when you’re wrong.”
