My mother used to read the riot act, but it was different from that one and usually ended with smacking!

    What about oldsters?

We have hundreds of new cases each day and more dead. In summer

It isnt going away. We should see a spike as we open back up.

Higher risk I'll grant but not 100% lethal. Your county may be an exception, how many deaths are involved in your calculations?

Unfortunately the virus doesn't care what your culture is. The same mitigation works just as well in Greece as it does in Taiwan :)

We're only just now starting to realise how fortunate we are to live in a country with such gutsy and willing citizens.

Having said that, we do need to stay vigilant. We need to remain mindful of crowds and hygiene. And of course, no more going to work or school while sick! We'll see how it goes as more return to work. Schools have been back two or three weeks now, and only two student cases in the country so far - both linked to a known case. That's a good outcome in terms of numbers and neither being random community infection, but pretty sh!tty if both went to school while in contact with a known case. Would prefer to assume they didn't know!

Fantastic! That's the way to do it. Let's all thank Her Majesty for lending us Commonwealthers some of that British grit and determination which conquered half the world :p

It sounds like you want people to needlessly die.

Hmmmm, should we believe the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, or you.

    Tough call.

Where do you come up with this nonsense? I go to the world's top experts for my information. Where do you go? Fox, Limbaugh, Savage?

That list of people seem to stick to only those "leaders" that are going raise the stock markets regardless of the death rates.

If the stock markets don't come up the death rates certainly will. When the government well runs dry and they stop pumping money into the economy/population things are going to get real.

My mother used the term "riot act," too! She used it as the ultimate warning: "Don't make me read you the riot act!" I didn't know what the "riot act" was, but I sure didn't want to find out. :(

I didn't know what it really meant until I studied history and learned about the British law.

Very true. Americans are killing each other by not wearing masks or social distancing. Canadians, especially here in British Columbia, think Americans are nuts. Right now, very few BCers are wearing a mask because there's very little virus in the community. Vancouver Island, for example, has almost 1m people...

It's damn nice to be able to breathe without having much chance of getting sick.

There are a lot of Aussies, Kiwis, and BCers taking the kind of individual responsibility Americans talk about but for some reason don't practice.
Vigilant indeed. New Brunswick, a province in eastern Canada, had a doctor slip across the provincial border to Quebec using his status as an essential worker, catch the virus, and then treat some 150 patients when he should have been in a 14-day self-isolation.

    The doctor has been suspended.

Kiwis, Aussies, and Canadians were tough soldiers in WW2.

Anyone American who thinks Americans aren't liked and appreciated by their allies should take a look at these two pictures in a famous church in Wellington, New Zealand, Old St. Paul's, within a short walk of their parliament. Note the U.S. Marine Corps flag and the Stars and Stripes in the first picture.

For those who may not know, the U.S. started the long road back at Guadalcanal from Wellington.

There are at least two major events that have been cancelled for this year: The Boston marathon and Cheyenne Frontier Days which were never cancelled before and the Spanish flu couldn't and didn't shop these events. You have to wonder if COVID-19 would cancel the baseball season. You also would have to spend summer vacation at home this year camping out in the backyard just to stay safe.
