State unemployment is paid by employers not this. This was borrowed by:

The $600 per week federal unemployment benefit was included in the CARES Act (Section 2104), which was signed into law by President Trump on March 27. However, the benefit was intended to be a temporary measure, covering employees only through July 31.

The new one is only $300, and 10 states still don't have it.

You do know the employers also pay a federal unemployment tax?

I'm well aware it ended, but it was going on for how many weeks? They got it for +/- 4 months. What did they spend it on? I was originally responding to a poster who claimed 'the children were hungry'.

Always put the lid down before flushing!

wonder if that’s a possible mode in nursing homes?

My husband read about this months ago. Why is it news, now? I'll check with him; maybe it was a preliminary white paper, or something. He nerds out on those.

Not sure about nursing homes, but most public buildings, medical offices, schools, etc. don't have lids like houses do. Usually a horseshoe shaped open lid. I do maintenance for schools and other places at night as a side gig, so I see them a lot unfortunately.

Cheap steroids can save the lives of patients who are critically ill with Covid-19, studies show.

The findings confirm the results of an earlier trial, which has already led to steroids being used widely for Covid patients in intensive care.

The new results, published in JAMA, show eight lives would be saved for every 100 patients treated.

The researchers said the findings were impressive, but stressed steroids were not a coronavirus cure.

In June, the UK's Recovery trial found the first drug - a steroid called dexamethasone - that could save the lives of people with severe Covid.

The latest study brings together all clinical trials involving steroids on coronavirus patients around the world.

It confirms dexamethasone works and that another steroid, hydrocortisone, is equally effective.

"At the beginning of the year, at times it felt almost hopeless knowing that we had no specific treatments," said Prof Anthony Gordon, from Imperial College London.

"It was a very worrying time, yet less than six months later we've found clear, reliable evidence in high quality clinical trials of how we can tackle this devastating disease."

The results on 1,703 critically ill patients showed:

    • 40% died when given only standard treatment
    • 32% died when given steroids
The studies were on only the sickest hospital patients. Most people recover having only experienced mild symptoms.
That's something you need to know.

Infection-Fatality Ratio of non-institutionalized patients overall 0.26% in this study done with the Indiana populaton, and very low below the age of 40, at 0.01%. Persons 60 or older, 1.71%. Whites less susceptible with an IFR of 0.18%. I do remind people that while these numbers are encouraging, there's been a lot of evidence that the death toll is not all given that many people who recover are showing up with concerning organ damage; so it's not just the death but also the maiming. But certainly this low estimate for non-institutionalized people is reassuring for those who are not (or whose loved ones are not) in nursing homes, etc.

There are five states that have declines in COVID -19 and they are California, Georgia, Mississippi. Arizona, and Nevada. Those five states must be doing something right. I just hope they keep doing what they're doing.

Do you watch baseball games on TV? and I mean watching that the fans in the stands are no more than cut out cardboard figures, If you could allow a limited number of fans to the game, would that be fair only allowing fewer fans to the game to keep the COVID-19 low as possible. The idea of letting 25% of attendance to the ball park may be a start. But would that be fair? They do it in some churches and it's due to the Coronavirus. It would be better than no attendance at all. The CFL 2020 season has been cancelled and we don't know if there will be a next season. We'll see happens from here. I'd like to say about the NFL and you have to wonder if there will be fans at NFL games. I don't think so. See if I'm right.
