There is a cost of living index for every area! They are all different. Why don't you compare COL in San Francisco to COL in Modesto which is only 50 miles apart? You'll find these same comparisons across the nation. Therefore, a national MW is almost worthless...

Our Costco has installed a large area containing self-check out machines and removed perhaps 5-6 of the old manned check out lines. Even Costco is closely managing their labor costs...

I have a real issue having people chose my food for me. I like my banana's slightly green, but some bruising is good. Avocados I like slightly over ripened versus under (I have to eat that day) and my steaks I chose specific marbling. I also do not want others picking my herbs as I'm fairly fickle so when it comes to grocery, chances are pretty null that I'll not go into the store to pick my own food. Society is truly becoming to lazy when they can't even get their own dam food!

When it comes to shoes, I can go from a size 10 to size 11, depending on the style, make and manufacturer to which I want to try on before I buy. Same with clothing.

Granted, I do buy online but comparatively, about 25% of my goods and service I order online. I also go out of my way to avoid big box stores and shop more mom and pop... Until you all phase them out.

That is a necessary activity for any business. Without it the business will fail.

Not true...it's the overall costs versus income that determines viability. Labor is simply one of the cost categories in business.

No...it varies business to business how labor is utilized. One business might be 5% labor while another is 85% labor. Sometimes human labor is required over automation, etc. A business based on 'service' will greatly value human labor. No need to stereotype...
