Mutation is evolution and we are already seeing a dozen or more strains of the virus already. So, that will go against any type of artificial creation of a virus, like military-grade anthrax for instance, which has not mutated naturally in any controlled environment.

The problem with all of this is just a distraction and ignore the signs that the GOP was wrong about Covid over the last two years. Instead of taking responsibility for their own lack of inaction, they want to blame someone else, which is the norm of conservative American politics.

Gain of Function research is useful, but it is not the research that shows how this virus evolved. It is to help understand the possibilities if it were to become a pandemic. Take for instance the gain of function research led by Yoshihiro Kawaok in the US at the University of Wiscounsin-Madison where he literally transported the H5N1 Bird Flu from one ferret to another where the Bird Flu became airborne. He was not doing this for weaponization, he was doing this to understand the possible evolution of the virus. So, the research at the Wuhan lab was not military, but scientific in trying to understand this new virus in animals that has been discovered. What probably and most likely happened is a lack of containment controls at the lab and not the big boogy man that conservatives love to exploit to the populace in fear tactics.

 

Remember, all of this is to show that it was not their fault when they said "open up the economy" and nothing to fear about Covid. It is not that dangerous. the numbers are all made up, etc.

LOL, in China, family is important, extremely important. How they define family is different than ours. Family not only includes the immediate family, or the extended family, but also the State is seen as the patriarch/matriarch of the family.

Second, China does believe the US exists as a country, along with all the other countries in the world. Their educational system is pretty good and there is extreme competitiveness to get into the top universities in China or to go to the West and have an education as well. This includes places like Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, the US, France, the UK, and elsewhere. Families will literally work together to send that one child abroad to have an education. And education is treated with much more reverence there than in the United States.

The main problem with China is not its elderly people, it is the young people who are having a harder and harder time finding work. So, they go to Tik Tok, YouTube, etc, to show their culture and musical skills, among others, pretty much like the young people in the United States and elsewhere.

 

Well said! Shortly after the world got slammed with this virus, it became pretty obvious to many of us that this wasn't something that was caused by people eating bats, snakes, and pangolins!

What a lot of people have forgotten, or never knew in the first place, is that most modern countries have had very active military programs that develop chemical and biological weapons for over a hundred years! Why would either China or the U. S. be any different...?

Not one decent American should, no matter what party or affiliation you have, be looking at this entire COVID pandemic without skeptisism. There is too many leaks and too much inromation pointing to this coming from a lab in Wuhan and that it may/may not have been released intentionally.

Why would Dr. Fauci go so far out of his way to absolve China of all this knowing full well that it could have come from a lab? Was he trying to prevent what he thought could lead to a World War? Was he working with China in keeping it covered up? Was he making money? Whatever the reason, he needs to come clean and we need solid answers. China lied in the past about a panademic they caused so this would not be the first time.

It was a horrible idea to give China money for research and then not have access to the lab to see what they were really doing. Another horrible failure of US foreign policy and thinking China was playing fair. They were not. They are liars and thieves and always have been.
