I must admit my jaw dropped as well however unlike the rabidly anti-gun folks who's only responsibility is to decide whether or not to arm themselves, police chiefs and sheriffs have the safety of the people who live under their protections to consider. This isn't the first anti-gun LEO to change their tune and it won't be the last. There is a long list of top LEOs who encourage citizens to defend themselves because they recognize they can't be everywhere. Statistics and facts are on our side.

Another Sheriff, I like the way he puts it.

Wow, hard to believe such a rabid gun banner grabboid as Lanier would have that position. Of course, what she is saying is not that individuals should be armed, or that she supports the 2nd Amendment. She has spent her entire career defying the law and endorsing and enforcing regulations to prevent people from owning a firearm.

You are correct, she is not saying that, she is acknowledging that given the fact that a citizen might be armed, if they chose to get involved, lives could be saved because an LEO response would be late to the event! This to me is a small first step.

True, she is implying an armed population is a good thing. Hopefully she follows through and turns into a gun rights supporter.

When you consider most of the mass shooting incidents that happen, or even the "common" convenience store robbery, you run into a kind of brick wall. If an armed Citizen had been there to intervene, the bad guy could have been stopped. We see accounts of this very often. Recently, there was a Pastor who stopped a gunman in his church.
I think there's a kind of tipping point. On one side, it's "dangerous" to have armed Citizens carrying guns all over the place. There will always be that small percentage of people who truly are unstable, and it is they who bring the element of danger.
On the other side, a whole bunch of those unstable people are not well intentioned, and they bring mayhem to our world. The tipping point comes when LE can't keep up with those who bring harm. It's less dangerous to have responsibly armed people out there to counter the larger problem. That's as close to a "solution" as it gets, in this world.

Well at least the DC Police Chief and Anderson Cooper at CNN are both worthy enough to be protected by armed security.

You see, if you have enough power and influence, you can reap the benefits of having others with guns protect you. The CNN Center in Atlanta even has its own police substation.

For the common people---you are on your own.

Your response with your 1911 is always faster that the any response from 911.

I'm a HUGE Sheriff John Urquhart fan, and I'm not generally a fan of the King County Sheriffs Department(I Live in King County). But he's fantastic and really cleaning the department up. Sue Rahr(who now works for Obama) was nearly criminal, and even Dave Reichert(now a congressman) couldn't clean up the department. But Sheriff Urquhart has been firing deputies left and right for just about any form of dishonesty.

I disagree with Cathy Lanier. A gunman can go berserk if someone starts shooting at him and start firing randomly. Very dangerous!

And with your vast knowledge on guns and self defense you know this just how? The instinctual response to being fired on is to seek cover.

Yeah dangerous for the active shooter. Love how you nutters seem to care more for the bad guy than law abiding citizens. The Chief told you they probably wouldn't be there in time. What's your solution....milk and cookies?

Are you sure you're not a conservative pretending to be a liberal?

In real cases, that hasn't occurred. When mass shooters have encountered resistance, they generally turn their guns on themselves.

Right. We should maintain the status quo of letting them shoot at us unchallenged.

Wouldn't want to make criminals angry or anything, they might shoot someon....oh nm, they do that anyway.

So far I've read tea and crumpets, ask them to stop and think about what they're doing, and show empathy for why they are robbing and raping you.

    Sounds like a great plan.

Stop the presses. The Chief was only attempting to score political points. She refuses 80% of all CCW applications. If her record were consistent with her words, she would be more on the side of "must issue".

As opposed to them firing randomly of their own accord, correct?

You are officially going on record as saying that you believe the best available solution, is to allow the active shooter to continue their murdering spree unopposed, because taking steps that may actually cease the carnage early on, will simply infuriate them to the point that they would be motivated to commit more murders than they would have if left undisturbed.

Whatever you do, don't call the police. That will really (*)(*)(*)(*) them off.
