You're rich, and white, you vote republican. That's a stereotype that is self evident.

 

I'm poor, in college, and yes I am mostly white, but with a rich mexican heritage.

 

I am trying to find out what year the democrats finally let black come to the convention floor. The best I can figure, it wasn't until 1968. So far, this is what I have been able to find:

1976 Rules: A commission headed by Rep. Barbara Mikulski of Maryland replaced the demographic quotas of 1972 with affirmative action requirements to increase participation by women, blacks and other minorities. (However, this specific plan had the OPPOSITE effect, decreasing the proportion of women from 38% in 1972 to 36% in 1976. The proportion of blacks declined from 15% in 1972 to 7% in 1976. After 1976, quotas for women delegates were reimposed.) PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION, the distribution of delegates among candidates to reflect their share of the primary or caucus vote, was mandated by party rules. The OP pertained to the dem's record on race. Their record is that blacks primarily vote democratic. That is to say, blacks vote against republicans as often as possible. I say that makes them smarter than any race alive (especially dumb southern ignorant Fox watchers).

 

I could do a list of rich democrats, but that would take an entire thread. This thread is about racist democrats, not the right wing.

 

Racist democrats is an oxymoron. The right wing are the proud, self serving racists. Have been for some time now.

 

If you read the post about Gov Faubus, you would find out that after having called out the National Guard to stop blacks from going to white only high schools; after the president of the US forced him to allow those blacks to attend using the 101st Airborne Division; and then after all that, he cancel an entire year of school in Little Rock Arkansas just to keep the schools from being integrated; after all that, blacks voted for his reelection 80% to 20%. That was smart.

 

Is that right? Now why don't you go start your own thread about racist republicans and start a list, because I can't think of one.

I may not be directly challenging each citation or quotation... but it is evident that others realize he is painting an inaccurate picture overall. I have the last 40+ years convenient to memory as an American. I know that the overall PICTURE he has painted is bogus, and in time I will challenge that here and in other commentary on this website.

Essentially, I'm suggesting that people CHECK OUT the (overall) truth of what he's saying.

I can assure you that he isn't "schooling" me.

And I ask... what are Democrats and Republicans saying/promoting today (right here/now)? Do you think that women, African Americans, other minorities, the working poor, the elderly and homosexuals should FLOCK to the "Right"?

People just need to look at the POLICIES they've supported or challenged... then make up their minds.

If you cannot at least acknowledge the huge ideological divisions between northern and western Democrats and the racist Southern Democrats in the first half of the 20th century, you cannot engage in a useful or intelligent discussion of the issue.

 

Here is a piece of trash Bill Maher, who has been using the N-word all his life, but he is supposedly a comedian, so it is all in good fun. Yes. The Southern Democrats didn't want Black people at the democratic conventions, and the Northern and Western Democrats loved the Southern Democrats so much they went along with it (and Jim Crow, and lynchings, and segregation ect).

 

Well, there you go again. Asserting something it this or that fact does not make it a fact, no matter how many times you repeat it in how many different ways, a al proganada.

I appreciate you are long lived and have seen much, but I am in my seventh decade and was part of the civil rights/peace movement in the 1960's. We were not so frightened of the police nor the national guard as we were the hard hat union members, who hurled more than racist epithets. I recall one protest where about a thousand unionized [Democract] steelworkers chanted "N**ger Lover" with spittle flapping from their lips.

Leaders say what they thing will get them elected. The rank and file members say what they feel in their hearts. And, from what I have seen, things have not changed much, other than Johnson era "programs" like the "war on pverty"...and we know how well that worked.

And what history chooses to ignore this far down the road was that those who marches and threw tear gas back at the national guard are business owners and managers today

Sorry, but posting a video of a brainless entertainer with a penchant for making people laugh, spewing his opinion does not make it above the radar as proof of anything more than that liberals are easily reinforced of their preconceived opinion.

 

In the end, the northern and western Democrats opted to give up effectively permanent majorities in Congress to fight for civil rights. In the end, more Democrats voted in favor of civil rights than Republicans.

 

Well, we all our sets of facts and opinions. I suppose we'll have to disagree about things here. We won't be convincing one another today.

That doesn't mean I won't share my opinion as much as I'd like to here in this topic.

 

And if anyone wonders what we see today, all they must look at is WHICH politicians (lawmakers) are promoting WHICH policies.

It's complex, but the effects don't take rocket science to observe.

When Republicans and Conservatives offer something for African Americans and others to vote FOR... they may indeed see more votes from those others. Until then, they'll attract those they always have (and that isn't the actual majority of the American people).

The wealthiest folks is what they are catering to the most.

Actually, Black nationalism was founded by a guy named Marcus Garvey, who thought that African Americans could never find equality in America, and instead go to Africa. he was arressted, but his actions caused Black Nationalism. And Malcom X, while saying if you put "a hand on you, you break it", he did relent in the end, and thought peace could be made.

Actually, the black vote went to the Dems in the 1930's, because the Republican party didn't do anything about the Lynchings that increased during that time.

The Dems, at that time, would be considered conservative. Republicans, would be considered Liberal. I don't know what history book this person read, but I can tell you, they do mention the copperheads.

You realize, everyone at that time would be considered racist today, including Abraham Lincoln. Racist feelings before WWI rose, thanks to Social Dwarnism. Only the most radical, every thought African Americans could intergrate into a white soceity.

And you can thank the fact that no African Americans were elected to Congress after Reconstruction, thanks to a crooked Republican presidental election.

You realize the north didn't really care? Lynchings were put in the newspaper in advance. The north didn't care about the south. They were more than sick of reconstruction, thanks to the Grant adminstration.

Really, comparing the Dems. to Nazis? That's just wrong.

Comparing Woodrow Wilson to Hitler? That's just wrong. And for him thinking that, Racist feelings were pretty strong at that time. No doubt about it, many republicans felt the same way to.

 

In the 60's, the democrats had huge majorities in the house and senate. Republican voted in higher percentages for both the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Without Republicans, democrats would have failed to pass them. It was the northern democrats that had to join the Republicans so that we could pass them.

Once again, the years prior to WWI, was full of racists. That was the high time of racism.
