We, as Americans, have been given a legacy of Freedom that has done more to liberate the world’s population and lift that population out of oppressive, generational poverty than any other nation in human history. But Freedom is no longer on the march. Instead, it is under attack, both here, within our borders, and by our enemies abroad.

There was once a time when 56 men -- wealthy, white men -- pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to sign a document that would plant the seeds to establish a government founded in Freedom. They intended to – and did -- guarantee the freedom and equal opportunity of every citizen to become as successful, as wealthy, and as powerful as these men were, should citizens choose to do so in their “pursuit of happiness.”

What will we pledge to preserve the best of America? We must right the wrongs, yes, but we must also protect and defend our legacy of Freedom. Hopefully, it will become clear that those who hold elected office have violated their oath of office and have disqualified themselves from service.

I believe so, and Here I Stand.

What an awesome country we are privileged to live in. Our founding fathers gave us a Republic and we aim to keep it. They gave us the tools we need to continue to create a more perfect Union. It’s sad to see the political left today so at odds with and openly opposed to the ideals of our founding fathers.

It’s sad that the political left wants to replace our 1776 founding and Declaration of Independence and all that our true founding stands for with the propaganda that is the 1619 project.

Until 1776, almost every person in the world was the property of an elite few. It was not until our founding that there was even an option for individual liberty anywhere.

The constitution didn't authorize the government to have a standing army or to get into foreign conflicts without the approval of congress.

Yeah, but freedom doesn’t guarantee outcomes so the Left thinks it’s racist.

ridiculous. no one is erasing the dec of ind, but historians are studying the conditions that would compel the colonists to come to such a radical conclusion. conditions in the colonies for all people, not only the rich and famous, is and should be of interest.

to understand 18th century colonies without considering the slaves, is like studying the bolshevik revolution without noting the conditions of the serfs.

This idiotic meme is definitely ingrained in the rightwing psyche. It persists because the defining trait of the Republican Party it’s lack of character: bad faith.

It’s goal is to protect and preserve an imperfect union.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news on this beautiful 4th Of July morning, but bipartisan majorities delivered the USA Patriot Act, the AUMF and other illegitimate and egregious legislative garbage that directly attacks the US Constitution, and they all still stand thanks to bipartisan majorities.

It is clear that today's Democrats are adding insult to injury, but failure to govern in accordance with constitutional principles is a long standing tradition in Washington DC.

Most countries ended slavery by passing laws - not starting a civil war. As great as this country is, the slavery issue will
    always be a black eye.

Leftists call everything racist and then get mad when “memes” come out about them calling everything racist.

    How adorable

He brought up lack of character and bad faith, not race. You brought up race.

I still want to know who said we should replace the Declaration of Independence with the 1619 Project.

No kidding Sherlock? he brought up bad character and bad faith to describe Republicans in response to my bringing up race as it fits democrats.

I guess if I bring up race and a democrat deflects Im no longer able to talk about race I can only talk about their deflection?

Typical liberal behavior. It’s why it’s so difficult to satirize you guys anymore, you all just fit your own stereotypes so darn well

No you can bring up race even to the point that feel others should not bring up race. You appear to be the one that was deflecting from what the poster said. You certainly are quick to judge and to put down. Does that show a weakness in your argument? Oh, I am not a typical liberal and my name is not Sherlock.

No one plans to replace anything. The plan is to create new documents with historical truths.

Why do you fear that? Acknowledging our history makes us better as a nation and as individuals. Personal awareness is not an accomplishment, it's a process. There's no reason it can't apply to our nation.

I find it very sad that you continue to restrict yourself to such far right wing questionable sources for your information.

Why? It's not like we rounded up people of a certain ethnicity to systematically kill them. That belongs to a brutal regime out of Germany(and well, a few other countries also committed similar atrocities.) Knowing the left, you'd probably say the Natives were our moment but they died more to disease and famine than the actual belligerent war on behalf of the US.

If ours is a black eye, it's a slight smidge of a black eye while countries like Germany and Japan had a whole black eye for most of the 20th century and into the 21st.

The truth is the truth and any American should be able to discuss and explore it from all angles as it pertains to our country and its history without making ridiculous assertions and generalizations or assigning labels such as calling all those you disagree with “the left”. I notice that a lot of posters here use that silly phrase in almost all of their posts.

There is a phony university called “Prager University” in which a radio pontificator and propagandist Denis Prager began blaming all the ills of the world on a mythical entity “the left” about 15 years ago and it has evidently caught on big time with the whole so called conservative news media. People are people all with nuanced world views, not directions.
