Right, except that issue isn't about whether or not a nuke could possibly break up a hurricane. It's the radiation fallout that is the issue. And if it was such a good question why is Trump denying he asked it?
Yes, scientists are discussing what a bad idea it is.

I am not going to bother, but scientists have discussed several methods and even tried a few of them. Most notably is cloud seeding which sounds even crazier than using a nuclear weapon. They even considered spreading a film on the ocean to limit the amount of warm most air available to the hurricane. Many ideas have been discussed and discarded and a few of them even tried.

I think you just answered the question

“What does it take to be a Trump supporter”

Bingo. So the question becomes............just how stupid do you have to be to think nuking a hurricane would A. work, B. be a good idea even if it did?

This is the kind of idea a 7 year old comes up with. When you hear the POTUS wanted to know whether it could be done it has to make you question his intelligence/sanity.

Because people pointed out how stupid he was for asking it.
It was just another trump brainfart.
What's precious is how many trot out to defend it.

In other words scientists haven't actually discussed using nuclear weapons to stop hurricanes.

Your proof that it is true? The only actual source that has said anything is Trump. Y'all fall for the 'unnamed source' fake stories all the time as long as they fit your confirmation bias.

Here is an interesting article. Not exactly high tech, but it talks about some of the methods proposed.

    https://www.livescience.com/24383-can-you-stop-a-hurricane-by-nuking-it.html

By the way, I have a bit of training in meteorology. I vaguely remember a discussion by Dr Ramage at the University of Hawaii back in the early sixties.

Also, if you are calling me a liar, I advise you not to do so.

The article you posted does not state scientist have discussed the idea of using nukes to stop a hurricane.

Trump tweeted that it's fake news. Always beware if they use "unnamed" sources and then, of course, the story spread like wildfire all over MSM because they don't care if it's fake or not as long as it's detrimental to the president. Don't be such suckers....MSM loves to manipulate all of you because you make it so easy by never challenging the validity of what they say.
Your proof that it ISN'T? Name the "unnamed" sources.

WHY do you need "Barack Obama" to defend Trump ?

The article is about scientists discussing it. They discarded the idea, but they discussed it. They even discuss the possibility of doing it in the early stages.

"Why not, then, just nuke tropical depressions before they have a chance to become hurricanes? Partly it's a numbers game, Landsea explained. "About 80 of these disturbances form every year in the Atlantic basin, but only about 5 become hurricanes in a typical year. There is no way to tell in advance which ones will develop." That, and a tropical disturbance is already a pretty powerful beast. If it were just 10 percent as powerful as a full-blown hurricane, it'd still take a huge effort to nip it in the bud."

Bottom line is that they discussed it, just as I said.

:) "Not absolutely sure" is a bad platform to use to nuke anything .

Why did Barack Obama need "Bush" to bash in order to defend himself? He did it for 8 long years....

I had already discarded the idea because of nuclear fallout. However, it is not absolutely definite what would happen if they tried it. It might be sufficient to break up the storm. One of the stages of a hurricane losing strength is when it starts to become disorganized and starts to break up. The problem is that the bomb is not likely to get rid of the mechanisms which allowed it to develop to start with. And it will very likely reform. It is simply not worth the risk.

However, that does not mean it should not be discussed rationally. Considering that we went to the moon and returned when a lot of people said it was impossible, no idea should just be arbitrarily discarded.

They are talking about it in the article. That is called discussing. They did not just dismiss it outright. They gave the reasons for not doing it.

Also, you might notice that they did not say it was too stupid to even talk about.

Please, nobody tell him that that the one possibly "successful" attempt to control a hurricane was when we seeded Hurricane Mitch and it stalled over Honduras, causing the worst storm damage EVER there. Trump will use it to drown all future possible immigrants

So Trump to the NOAA...."could we use nukes on hurricanes headed to the USA, to break them up?" NOAA: "no, sir....that wouldn't work." "ok, thanks"

    Dems heads explode!
