Has anyone here ever feared Christianity being true? Personally, I am likely what you would call an Agnostic. However I am Agnostic in the sense that I believe in the possibility of the paranormal and of a creator or creators, but not necessarily God as portrayed in Christianity. Though recently the thought of Christianity being true does frighten me. But I have very strong ideological and personal disagreements as well as moral concerns with Christianity in addition to my skepticism. As a result, I would find it very difficult to follow the Christian God, should He exist.

I'm rather affraid of christian ideology, it's constant call to madness and the ancient testament is a collection of horrific things.

Athees had to fight for a long time to get the freedom to be athee. The first athee in western europe, ironically a priest had to publish his declaration of atheism as a testimony so he wouldn't end as a barbecue.

Christian are not that different from muslims in the sense both try that their ideology rule the physical world. Muslims are just more violent thant the christian one.

I only feared it when I used to believe in it. I used to be agnostic too until I realized that I was god.

Religion in all its guises is a form of mental illness, and for the good of humankind should be banned by pain of death.

They are all men made constructs created out of the need in all human beings to find out why we exist in the first place. Science wont be able to explain that until they truly understand consciousness.

I'd put it down to brainwashing and genetics rather than any 'need to understand' anything.

Not really, monsieur VotreAltesse. "The Gospel" (Evangelia) means "the Good News". Therefore Christianity is supposed to be preached peacefully and with persuasion, like a good news. It's is true Christianity was forced by some kings and rulers with violence but that was "their cup of tea".
But you will ever find in the Christian sacred texts an attitude "fight them until the religion is of Allah only" and "kill the infidels wherever you find them" like in the Quran.

You've never wondered why you are alive?

I can't say I have ever wondered it; why do you ask? Or do you mean have I never wondered how I'm alive? The answer to that is to do with a sperm fertilising an egg - nothing more, nothing less.

I'm not asking how a human body is biologically created. I'm asking how you can even experience having a body to begin with.

Well because I was born and am now a living organism. [IMG] So let me turn the question around and ask you how you experience having a body to begin with?

Consciousness is what makes it possible for us to experience reality. Our bodies are just tools that we use to move and interact with this plane of existence. Without consciousness there would be nothing to experience anything.

Consciousness is simply due to the intrinsic development of the brain. I don't really know where you're coming from - is it from a religious perspective?

Yepp, it's very difficult, almost impossible, to love your enemy when you want to tear them to pieces.

Ok. Pinpoint where in the brain I can find consciousness then? I hear scientists making this claim all the time with 0 evidence to back it up... And no. I don't follow any religions although you could take some doctrine from eastern religions and come up with the same conclusions.

Well I'm not a brain surgeon so I wouldn't know; but even if I were, I still wouldn't be able to explain the human brain in all its complexity: physiologically, those who specialise know what parts of the brain control our movements and regulate our vital signs, but I don't believe medical science will ever be able to understand the innermost workings of it, such as what makes someone a psychopath, or a follower of religion, and diverse other behavioural characteristics which make us who we are.

It's fine. The experts don't even know. That idea stems from the limited belief that we are our bodies so of course they think it must be somewhere inside it. I'm just going to leave you with this because I need to go to bed. The fabric of the universe is consciousness and everything within it is also consciousness. Therefore consciousness is god and so I am god since I am consciousness. I didn't figure this out through religion but instead I experienced glimpses of it via meditation. Ultimately it took a near death experience until I fully came face to face with this realization. In that unconsciousness I was everything and everything was me but at the same time I was no thing and yet infinite... I've never taken ecstasy but I know what it felt like for those 30 minutes I left my body.

If you take the old testament, it's filled with diverse horrors. Furthermore, violence by christian was the norm between the 4th to the 19th century. The orthodox church in Russia is the partner in crimes of the muslims in tchetchenia, I think to the gay death camps.

Many athees are still persecuted in Russia, for instance a guy was put in a psychiatric hospital for claiming god doesn't exist.

Read the Wikipedia page on the origins and evolution of Yahweh. I assure that your residual fear-faith in him will be destroyed.

We'll understand the brain in its entirety one day. We already know so much more than we did a mere ten years ago, and an ocean more than we did a century ago. Imagine what we'll know in a hundred years from now, or five hundred, or two thousand.

Uh, what? Not everything in the universe is conscious. And the universe existed omg before we existed, let alone became conscious.
