The game first came out in 2001 so it's quite an old game. However, it's always been updated.

You can be either the Allies (UK, France or USA) or the Axis (Germany) and play in each side's Army, Airforce or Navy.

No skill trees. A recruit in their first mission can kill someone who has been playing for years.

No Garands +10dmg. Everyone gets the same weapons (well, you have to rank up to get higher weapons but they're not better just because you are higher rank).

 

Give it a try and you too can be killed jumping out of a burning plane.

 

How about flying around in a P-39 shooting up poor buggers driving their Opels?

 

Great! I actually bought this game along time ago but could never play it.

Now, with a faster computer I can play it and play it for free!

 

Well, if you end up playing go Allied and post your name in here so we could meet up in game, maybe, perhaps.

Try Guild Wars.

Not historically related, but at least its not historic at all...

I play WoT. However, in WoT I can't be infantry, or fly a plane or sail a boat.

Still looking for a good online ww2 Naval game, though I hear the people from World of Tanks is coming out with a similar game.

It is an MMO. It's not an MMORPG. But there are RPG elements. Instead of leveling a character, you level weapons, vehicles, weird but cool stuff. If you're familiar with CoD's leveling format...

 

Unrelated to the thread...well scratch that, my comment about WW2 themed games, should inlcude a recommendation for Call of Duty - World at War.

Between paintball and war oriented video games, I'm curious why the author of the OP does not enlist in the Australian military and experience
the real thing?

That isn't meant as a "put down"...it's just if someone has an interest in militaria, why not be part of it yourself if you are of age and able bodied?

Look at it as more of a challenge than an insult.

I built model planes as a kid and wasn't fully satisfied with just dreaming about it...I wanted to pursue the real deal and failure wasn't an option.
but it all starts with an interest...you certainly have this already.

NCO's give plenty of orders.

34 is not too old, but your choice..

At least in the USA, they will take you to age 35 in the Army.

Yes, that is what Battlefield 3 is. A massive and multi-player game that supports thousands of players simultaneously.

Do you understand? An MMO does not have to be and RPG.

 

MMO does not mean it has a multiplayer option.

Kind of does. Otherwise the acronym Massively Multiplayer, is pretty meaningless.

In either case, it looks ok but seems like a WW2 themed BF3 clone. The only FPS games I really got into were TF, CS and a few of the MW titles, so maybe it's not a fair critique.

A game is not an MMO just because it's multiplayer. BF3 is not an MMO.

 

So it's a clone even though it's 10 years older?

BF3 is fought on tiny maps. This is fought on one huge map.

 

I just meant they were similar, a poor word choice.

BF3 maps are gigantic compared to the FPS games I'm used to playing. But, as mentioned I'm not much of an FPS fan.
