There was very nearly a thermonuclear confrontation over Cuba, remember? Russia then was much weaker, militarily, than the US. Now there is a parity in arms and, yes, you should be extremely cautious about whom you choose to provoke.

Nothing that Trump has mused about would prevent this or other young American-born males with no criminal records from obtaining all the assault rifles they desire and expressing their hateful derangements via killing sprees.

One dude heeded his call to exploit the impotence of US law in protecting Americans:

Firearm fanciers wring their hands and mewl, "There is nothing we can do to prevent terrorists from easily obtaining weapons and shooting Americans to death!"

Others will not surrender so eagerly.

It certainly gained a lot of press but there was no real doubt Khrushchev would eventually back down. Any time an American leader confronts another foreign leader US Leftists get in a panic. This was especially true with Ronald Reagan. They were afraid of Hussein's "Palace Guard" as well.

There is only one Superpower in the world but it's leaders recently have been acting like lower level school employees, with the world naturally becoming a more dangerous place as a consequence.

Theoretically, Trump can rebound from his errors. The question is, is he capable enough to do so? I don't recommend that he starts apologizing for past errors like many establishment clowns want him to do. That would only make him look weak and pathetic. However, he does need to change. How soon? He's gotta be on his best behavior after Labor Day, because that's when the public really starts paying attention.

Apparently 77% of Republicans and 83% of people overall support banning those on the terrorist watch list from purchasing guns. I don't know how much political clout the NRA would be willing to use in order to fight this one. They might want to surrender on this particular issue in order to keep some respect.

If Trump's campaign team had been smart, after he locked up the GOP nomination they would have told him to take a long vacation and study world and national affairs until after the convention. Every time this guy opens his very big and very ignorant mouth, he hurts his chances of winning in November. It is almost as if he is tanking the election on purpose. What worked to entice the birthers and the rest of the nit wits in the GOP who hate Mexicans and think that Obama is a secret mooselim will fail miserably in the general election. There are definitely enough of them to win the GOP nomination where he only needed 35% of Republicans to win. If he could have been persuaded to tone down the rhetoric and sharpen his message regarding the restructuring of trade deals and strengthening border enforcement, he would have had a real shot in November. However if he keeps up his juvenile tactics of name calling and third rate fear mongering, he will get his ass handed to him by Secretary Clinton in the fall.

That rule doesn't seem to apply to the US, or any of the democracies in fact. They all seem to be running scared.

Russia would never want a confrontation with the US. What would be the point? Like the Islamists they'll take what they can bit by bit.
