If the Republicans nominate virtually anyone but Donald Trump for President in 2024 then they will have a very good chance to take back the White House. If, however, they nominate Trump then it is extremely likely that he will lose and Democrats will retain the White House.

Not just the White House but down ticket as well. Now, if it ends up being another Trump v Biden election (for the love of all that is holy, please no), and Biden has some kind of health issue right before the election, Trump might be able to win, but that's the only scenario I see where that would be possible.

Down ballot is indeed also an issue. Trump and Trump-backed candidates were the primary causes of Republicans' disappointing performance in 2022.

Agreed. I think the circus is in town these days because media had to have something else to wall to wall cover to distract folks from the massive failure of the current administration, the restructuring of the world power around us because Biden is so corrupt and fecklessly incompetent..

I was reading some commentary the other day, and I need to verify, but from what I was hearing, if Republicans can't win the Senate this go around, they'll probably be in the minority until some time next decade. I'll be voting in the GOP primaries again to try to support the most sane candidate. I don't know who that will be yet, but I do know that Trump will be at the bottom of that list.

First of all, it is too early to tell. No point in opining on a story that has not been written yet.
Second of all, if Biden is the best the democrats can come up with and you reject Trump, then what is your plan? China has a plan. Russia has a plan. Iran has a plan. Noko has a plan. What is your plan? Especially the ultimate in election interference has voided our election system for all practical purposes.

If Trump and Biden are again the choices then I would reluctantly vote for Biden again or vote 3rd party, as I did in 2016.

I voted 3rd party in the past two elections. I LOATHE the idea that this will be another Trump v Biden election, but if that happens, I'll be voting for Biden this time. I honestly can't think of anyone off of the top of my head who I'd choose Trump over, in either party.

The past couple of times I told people I didn't blame them for voting for Trump as the lesser of two evils, but his attempts to overthrow the election have put me completely over. Frankly, there's no longer any excuse for anyone to continue supporting Trump.

Trump's campaign donations are impressive since his indictment was announced. Many of those donations, allegedly, came from first time donors. In the last polls he was 30 points ahead of the pack. He has a good chance of beating the senile old man given how bad he has performed (even prominent democrats don't want him running). It seems like the only ones that would vote for him are those that like the direction the country is going in (which most believe is headed in the wrong direction).

I tend to agree, particularly if he continues fighting the results of the last election. Unfortunately the alternate selections are not wonderful. And, if Biden is nudged aside for a still-sentient replacement Trump wouldn't stand a chance. JFK's nephew has thrown his hat into the ring; he doesn't seem to be the stereotypical Neo-Dem from what I've seen so far - leans more toward JFK/RFK.

Biden beat Trump last time simply because voters wanted anyone except Trump. That would still work.

They won’t have a phony dossier this time around, they might still have a “Slurpee Case” : All sugar high, no substance.
What will Biden do if he wins?

I'm not an advocate for most of Biden's policies so I really don't care what he might say he would do. He is at least a decent human being, which elevates him above Trump.

DeSantis does have a better chance of winning up against a Democratic opponent in an election than Trump.
However, consider this: Surveys have shown that, if an election came up again, Trump would win against Biden (which might have more to do with Biden's extremely sagging popularity).

I personally think one the biggest marks against Trump right now is his age. Others may disagree with that.
Although Biden was the previously oldest president to have ever been elected (and was still a year and a half older when he was elected than Trump would be if he ran again).

The main problem with Trump is that he's the sort of person who, if he visited my home, would make me feel compelled to count the silver after he left.

Hardly a novel position from a Biden voter.

Pretty sure Ann Coulter has been saying something similar lately. I hardly think of her as the stereotypical democrat.

many States are or are in the process of changing their ballots so that you can't do a party vote and are making it harder to tell who is dem and who is repub on the ticket - for this very reason

Trump gets out the repub vote, but he also gets out the dem vote

most republicans vote already, it's the dems that need motivated - Trump benefits Dems in getting the vote out more

Even then, Trump gets out the GOP vote in the primaries. Not so much in the general.

Yea, and the covid pandemic played a role in that. It allowed Biden to hide in his basement while the MSM carried his water for him by non stop hammering Trump over the way he was handling the pandemic. Other than that they really had very little to criticize him for and nothing to praise Biden for other than he wouldn't tweet mean words.
