There are a lot more mechanics familiar with a regular engine and a lot more available parts for them.

No problem, if you have any question about your electric vehicle, call an electrician. :)

FYI, an electrical motor needs far less maintenance than an internal combustion engine, it is not even close to comparison. :)

I'll be honest... it's a complete remnant of just saying fuse box regardless of type.

They practically are these days other than oil changes which can go 10,000 miles now. Are electric cars maintenance free?

OH lordy I remember them and having to change them, the ceramic ones. I always laugh at the movie Christmas Story with the dad and the fuses.

Tell that to my boss. He just dropped $6k on an engine for a Ford Fusion. And check this out, in order to change the headlights on the car the front bumper has to come off. The dealer wanted to charge him something like $700 to change them. He did it himself but it took all weekend.

And that elevates the additional cost how? There's no point in having two services to you home, you just have to upgrade the entire system. But no matter which it a cost that is not factored into the asserted cost savings.

And $6k is actually pretty reasonable. If it is an EcoBoost engine it could be more.

OK but the fact remains people want their own personal transportation and that is what this is about, not Uber.

I think he said Ford picked up some of the costs. They wanted the engine to find out why a hole had blown through it. He just got it back today.

Agreed 100%, & I predict that once more and more At-Home charging centers are purchased by the (excuse the pun) Über-rich, & popular demand drives production/installation, you'll see prices FOR them drop.

Not one of my cars has just died, chugged, backfired or refused to start since the 70's. They're damn near bullet proof today.

I don't know that to be true, Those systems ALREADY exist for those who need to them. It is just that these homeowners will have to upgrade to these existing systems and existing components.

The basic reason 'fuses' are no longer code for new installation is because they can be circumvented, and are human error prone. I've seen pennies stuck below a blown fuse and placing an over rated fuse into an oft blown circuit is common.

All it's like, is dropping in a line for say an arc-welder.

If you want it, you want it. If not, you don't get it.

I had one that almost died but because of the rheostat that controls the throttle was dying. Guess what controls the power to the motor in an electric car? For some strange reason some believe because it is electric it will be "maintenance free".

Sure you can only charge your car at night and not cook or do laundry of run the AC/Heat if that's what you want to do.

Sure, if instantly, everyone in a given area all switched to electric cars, & most of them plugged in at the same time.

Your other appliances will be on another line(set of lines) in your home of course.

Yes, there will have to be infrastructure upgrades.

But there are always reasons for those anyway.

Yep. People upgraded their 100A service to 200A so they could havd all these modern electrical gadgets we have today.
