I really do not have a whole lot to add. The "war on religion" is imagined. Christians make up about 75% of Americans. Nearly every president has claimed Christianity. All but a few Senators and Congressmen claim to be Christians.

In fact, it would be rather difficult for the overwhelming majority of the population to be oppressed by a tiny minority. Remove the victim shirt. No one is victimizing you.

That's a good article, and pretty much right on the money.

Everyone sees themselves as victims, obviously, because they don't experience everyone else's situation. Christians don't experience the atheist's experience of being required to partake in a school prayer they don't believe in (even though that might be getting fixed), nor the Muslim's experience of having a harder time getting a job because of their name or religion. Muslims don't experience the Christian's experience of being told that Islam is some form of great united foe aimed solely at Christians, or the atheist's experience of the alienation you can get from your family when you tell them you don't believe the same thing they do, and atheists don't experience the religious person's... well, I don't know what. I'm sure there is something.

Same goes for women, blacks, Asians, ethnic, religious or political minorities, as well as, of course, the majority who receives the minorities complaints.

Humans have a tendency to think that things are more severe if they happen to you. Many, I dare say most, activists are activists because they experience the problem, first or second hand.

That pie figure is of course hilarious in its comment of the sheer irony of the subject, but I'd just like to comment on what seems to be a very common notion in America: Even if the religious population were to become a tiny minority, it would NOT be a sign of oppression.

When religions loose their attractions it is just that, a loss of attraction. It is not a war and it is not a result of oppression but simply a decrease in attraction and popularity.

In fact, when religions ARE being suppressed by political means to the degree of "war" or oppression of the religious, it is so obvious that no one really has to mention it. When this is not the case and stories about being oppressed and outlawed and what not have to be fabricated in order to uphold an illusion of oppression, there's only one answer to the cause of it: The usual built-in persecution complex of monotheistic religions.

see the oppression almost everywhere in America:

evolution is contested in schools and confusing our children

morals are considered to be from a 'god'

christians have learned to lie to themselves just to be considered christians

lying is now considered a norm within many of the very politicians that run the country

and with the concepts held of the 'invisible hand' is how to buy just about anyone in the whole of america.

Excellent post. It appalls me when conservatives claim to want separation of church and state when Obama wants insurance companies to provide birth control, but then they say that prayer in schools (or sporting events) is ok (because you don't have to pray if you don't want to). Well, you don't have to use birth control if you don't want to.

Most Catholic Bishops aren't too terribly conservative. The fact that virtually every American Bishop from 180 dioceses have spoken out against this unjust law should say something. Even the archbishop to the military has spoken out against this. This compromise by Obama is anything but since these institutions have to provide insurance anyways.

    You're not helping matters any.

If you know something about this, then maybe you can give your interpretation?

Or do you believe that whenever any law is passed that does not support a Christian interest of some sort, it turns all Christians everywhere into victims?

It's such an incredibly stupid claim.

And the people who claim that have no understanding of how the law works.
