This is a great show. It shows real life people who took a risk, created a business and now it has paid off. They hunt, shoot, love, live, and even pray at the end of every episode. And now its poised to be the biggest cable show of all time.

It just goes to show that America is still, and has been a nation of people with common values that want to live within a civil society and just be left alone to live their own lives.

 

I must say, that as a duck hunter, I find the show, in my wise opinion, to be absolute crap.

Now, I own some Duck Commander calls. The drake mallard call is incredible, and works beautifully.

Incredible, innovative, and unlike anything else on the market, and certainly better than grunting through a whistle for a drake mallard call.

But the show itself I find to be juvenile and moronic, lacking anything remotely believable. It is a half hour, bad comedy sitcom.

Now Phil Robertson certainly deserves credit for building up his empire. He absolutely put it on the line, and he and his family made sacrifices to do it. I certainly respect that.

However, he also has a master's degree, and is not quite the dumb redneck that is shown on the show.

The show is just bad. Too many fart jokes and set ups. Nothing real about it.

 

Low budget, just a camera crew following them around in a semi-scripted "reality" show combined with a large viewing audience = sponsors are happy, the network is happy...a success story.

I don't watch the show by the way, but I've heard of it before...reminds me of a ZZ Top convention.

Big fan of "River Monsters" on Animal Planet in terms of a "reality" show that I'll actually watch.

 

I don't really care for the show. It's painfully obvious it's scripted and its basically the "Jersey Shore" for rednecks. But, good for them, they come off as nice enough people on TV at least.

Thats what makes it even more interesting. Most people don't watch TV in the summers, yet they had the most watched premier.

I like Duck Dynasty. Especially Uncle Si. That being said, I don't think any reality show can be completely real. The presence of camera and a sound crew being the 'elephant in the room' changes how people interact.

The religious content of the OP was hard to miss.

 

Others shows are what? Scripted? That "so what" is half the reason I find the show stupid. There is a big difference between a walking dead type of scripted show and a "reality show" that's scripted.

 

The implication of the OP is the show is successful because they "pray" at the end of each episode.

The show is successful because it allows the viewer to believe they are smarter and more worldly then the actors. If these dumbass jebus freaks can make it, why not them?

It's a basic Hollywood formula that works well on idiots, the uneducated and losers. Basically, 25% of dem and pub voters.

 

Yes, I know there is a big difference. However, the entire show is not scripted. I am not a big fan of reality shows, but OCC and this are my faves ever. I love the family, they are nice people respectful, run a successful business. I also enjoy the ending hearing about the show and the prayer that Phil says.

No it doesn't. The people are a success story. Just because you hate the show doesn't mean you know the reasons why people like it.

It figures though...liberals hate success, they hate anything that makes money or started on its own.

 

Hate to break it to ya, but its a scripted show. I'm sure not every word is put down on paper, but these are scripted scenerios they are put in with actors (some of them very bad, like the children and wives) who play themselves. Jersey Shore made this type of television famous, and while it may be popular among many people, I would much prefer to just watch an actual hunting/fishing type show with people who are not playing a character. To each their own.

 

You must watch a different show. I don't see any of the Robertson's as dumb rednecks. Phil is pretty articulate. Jase is hilariously funny with a deadpan delivery. Willy is the straight man. Yes, it's not reality, it's a plotted (not scripted) show, but it's pretty funny. The writers set up hilarious situations.

Seriously?

Ya, people who have a cable reality program, guest on multiple talk shows, conduct dozens of interviews for popular magazines and biops and talk about running for congress "just want to be left alone".

The OP thinks this show is somehow real when all it is is a bunch of actors and Hollywood writers catering to his most basic desires so they can sell some ad time. This show is no more real then any other reality show. To put it up as some kind of testament to the redeeming values of all America...with a dose of religion thrown in for good measure, is just sad.

I watched the show once, it was idiotic, I won't watch it again. I found it insulting to my intelligence. But for those of you who think it represents the best of "American and christian values", knock yourself out. Water finds it's own level.

You know what's really sad? A large number of people would probably vote for the guy for Congress.
