I've tried to watch that show, and I just can't get into it...

But, then again, I hate reality-type shows in general...

Why is it weird? People are watching because they apparently like the Robertson Family and their religious, family and other views.

I'm going to guess some people watch it for the reasons you cited, but I'm also going to guess a large portion of the audience watch it because it is a train wreck in slow motion...just like any other reality show.

But if people want to believe it is being watched primarily because of it's christian values, knock yourself out. It's just another lie you tell yourself that you want to believe not because it's true but because it makes you feel good.

Nah, people don't waste their time waching things they don't like. I could see a few episodes here and there you might have that, but not all of the increased viewer ships they have gained.

its not a lie, its fact. Look online, look at what people are saying about the show. Open your (*)(*)(*)(*)ing eyes and stop living up Obama's ass for once.

Yeah, which is awesome. Unfortunately none of this encapsulates why people watch it (or at least everyone I know), which is watching the southern yokels be funny (especially the grandpa I guess. From the sounds of it he is quite crazy).

Now I haven't watched it (i'd rather just watch a hunting show) so this is just what I have heard, and seen on the commercials.

Personally I'm into Pawn Stars for my Reality tv needs. They spend more time talking about the items and history and keep the 'reality drama bs' to a minimum.

There is nothing further from reality than TV "reality" shows.

DD is "American Choppers" but featuring "rednecks" not "bikers" and the problems are exactly the same. The actual making of things is interesting, as witness the success of "How It's Made" and "How Do They Do It?" but "American Chopper" and "Duck Dynasty" ignore anything whatsoever about motorcycles and duck calls to give us the Teutels and Robertsons yelling at each other. The Teutels actually do have some fascinating and very state of the art machinery in their shop and employ some very advanced and innovative metalworking techniques, but from the show you would think that all they did all day was homoerotic horseplay and argue.

Television producers must be the most out of touch parvenus that have ever existed. They not only apparently believe every stereotypical belief that has ever existed but actively script them into their show.

The only one I can even barely tolerate is "River Monsters" Yes, Jeremy Wade is certainly a drama queen about fish but he communicates the fascination of his subject and leaves himself largely out of the picture. In that way, strangely, he becomes far more interesting than Junior Teutel or Phil Robertson will ever be.

The grandpa? Do you mean Phil? he's the ex QB star who started over Terry Bradshaw and the one who actually started the Duck Commander franchise. You are probably talking about his Brother, Si.

I see you have not watched the show enough to know who is who, yet you mock it as thinking you know what it is all about.

I have to agree with you. Ever catch the episode where the sound guy got nailed by lightening?

As a guy who loves fishing and hunting, I have to say I find that show fascinating, not just the catch but the travel to exotic places and the patience he has to put in the time.

If you had fully read my post you would have seen this

And I wasn't mocking it, I was explaining the reasons why those around me watch it.

What I can tell you from experience is that its much easier to observe them than it is to live among them. Many of our neighbors could qualify for the show, and frankly, its often disgusting.
But.... live and let live. Right?

I just googled that, I didn't realize he played football in college. While on the same wiki page it said as an 18 year old man he was dating his (now wife) who was 14 years old. College freshman dating an 8th grader.
