It is really bad for us right now. We have rain since many days and mud and stones come down the mountains. The most affected areas are around savona and genova.

    11 people already died :(

Every year some areas of this planet suffer as the weather changes with seasonal variation. It is unfortunate for those living in these areas...but has always happened.

I wish you all the best, but this is the reality of climate.

God bless you and yours, my heart goes out to you and your people! Were you personally effected? Is there any relief agencies in the area yet? Our mass media haven't picked up on the story yet I suppose. I rarely tune in to network or cable news unless I am totally bored...

Indeed, back when I was a youngster I used to think a mudslide? How is that so bad ? They are awful, and its fairly easy to prep for many other disasters, but how does one prep for a side of a mountain coming at your home or town at 40 or 50 mph? I pray I it didn't happen at night. We here in the smokies dont have that problem for some reason, probably the geology of the mountains (a lot of shale and limestone, both drain well).

    Good luck ...

All fine so far. But it is crazy. The mountains have waterfalls coming down. The mediterranean sea is extremly rough and brown from all the mud that is brought there from the rivers

Totally awesome, ie that area of the world, the Mediterranean sea and surrounding areas. Its on my bucket list to visit. Trouble is my bucket list gets longer and time is shorter....in any case how do people prepare? I understand large landslides are loud, kind of like a hurricane at a distance. Do you have any type of early warning system?

Nope, police just closes roads, experts try to figure out what areas ar at risk. The problem in Liguria is, that very high mountains reach direct at the sea. You simply have no warning time.

Strange weather? Aren't there enough tree roots to hold the ground together? Is it affecting other places or only Italy? Venice must drowning...as usual. I know Greece had its first snowfall of the season. As for me I live in Southern Florida and God decided to thrill us and give us some New York City weather. Boy it is cold, but we do have heat if we need it. Oh well, it's better than having hurricanes.

I wish you well though, and hope for the best for the people. I have seen floods and know the devastation, so I can imagine what mud slides must be like. Stay well!

Liguria has very high mountains with high angles. They are covered with trees but they are just swept away.

It is also affecting switzerland, south france. Venice not so much, because its on the other side.

Last week started the maiden voyage of the Costa Diadema. The biggest ship ever sail under italian flag. When she entered Savona harbor, police did not allow people to leave the vessel. The city was so stormy that the liner was seen as most safe place in city.

The Smokies and Appalatian range are very old and have been Weathered/Eroded to the point of being a third of what they once were, and the loose stuff long gone.

That looks like one of the cinque terre.

One of the best hotels I ever stayed at is the Spendido on the hill just at Porto Fino. I hope it is OK.

Best wishes to you and your family, Marcus.
