I think it already has begun. Its normal. In Germany we have a powerful far right party now. In many european countries. China rises as new worldpower, USA sinks down into obscurity.

Its the chancellors business to lead our nation through this.

    Oh sure it is.

DEUTSCHLAND UNTER ALLEN: “Germany has come up short once more in meeting its military obligations to NATO. Leaked readiness data indicates that a key component of the NATO rapid reaction force, which Germany is to supply in 2019, is nowhere near ready to perform duties German said it could handle.”

Raise your hand if you’re surprised.

Yes, 0.6% mean GDP growth vs 2.5%. How laughable to think they could sustain a trade war with us. They need the U.S. to sell those overpriced hunks of junk cars, even the ones that cheated on emissions. Truly the mouse that roared.

Yes, I do. We have exchanged defense commitments and you aren't honoring yours.

Germany has come up short once more in meeting its military obligations to NATO. Readiness data indicates that a key component of the NATO rapid reaction force, which Germany is to supply in 2019, is nowhere near ready to perform duties German said it could handle.

The German armored brigade that was promised for 2019 is not able to fulfill its duties. Only about 20 percent of the armored vehicles (Leopard 2 tanks and Marder infantry vehicles) are fit for service.

German military aircraft continue to have the lowest readiness rates in NATO and Germany continues, as it has for over twenty year, to promise the situation would be fixed but it never is.

When the Americans press Germany to meet its NATO obligations (which includes spending at least two percent of GDP on defense) there are promises but no performance.

During the Cold War West Germany (the half that belonged to NATO) maintained its military obligations faithfully, fearful that the dozens of Russian divisions in communist East Germany would quickly extinguish a democratic and prosperous post World War II Germany.

But a decade later Russia had second thoughts about giving up its empire. Germany made promises but did little. In the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks Germany agreed to help out in Afghanistan, as long as its troops were kept away from the fighting and allowed to avoid combat as much as possible. The deployment of a few troops to Afghanistan and other peacekeeping missions revealed other problems. While Germany had, on paper, well-armed and equipped troops the government had spent very little on training and logistical support. It required a major effort to keep small numbers of German troops overseas fed and supplied. It was embarrassing and promises were made to set it right. Nothing really got done about that.

The 2 % must be achieved by 2024. And beside that we have economic boom, which means the 2% are even harder to reach.

I'm not sure how open Trump is to German Free-Loading. He might be willing to make a deal.

We should do same as poland and uk. Put firefightef and police budget into defense budget and with that reach 2%.

I dont want freeload. I want a powerful military. But that takes time and planning. We plan new ships amd submarines for example amd a new type of fighter jet is in development.

    Fairy Dust and Unicorns.

A Defense Ministry paper revealed German soldiers did not have enough protective vests, winter clothing or tents to adequately take part in a major NATO mission.

Parliamentary Armed Forces Commissioner Hans-Peter Bartels.
    • Bartels pointed to "big gaps" in personnel and equipment. At the end of 2017, no submarines and none of the air force's 14 large transport planes were available for deployment due to repairs.
    • Other equipment, including fighter jets, tanks and ships, was outdated and in some cases not fully operational because of bad planning or a lack of spare parts. Some air force pilots were unable to train because too many aircraft were being repaired.
    • Soldiers have experienced increasing levels of stress and there was a lack adequate leadership due to some 21,000 vacant officer posts.
    • The report said the government needed to pursue reforms "with greater urgency" and increase defense spending.
    • A lack of funding and inefficient management structures and planning were behind the problems. Germany has cut defense spending since the end of the Cold War. In 2017, it spent about 1.2 percent of its economic production in 2017 on the armed forces, which is below the 2 percent target recommended by the NATO alliance.

Again, you think that is solved with money? Money changes nothing.

You do have problems that run deeper than money.

What is it that Germany is missing?

We miss a defense minister that deserves this name. We have a women that nobody respects. Ursula von der Leyen.

Beside that you cant simply become officer. You must fullfill the requirements.

I know very well that our army is in bad shape and much must be done. But this cant happen overnight.

In the meantime, try to be as mouthy and disrespectful as possible to the Americans. That's the whole key!

Your unfair dealing with us on Trade and NATO is the opening insult. Us telling you the truth is not an "insult" though I agree that it is likely painful to hear the truth about yourselves.

I'm confident that Deutsch Pride will reassert itself and we will stand shoulder to shoulder in the defense of our common freedom.
