Are you surprised that a nasty, spiteful, egocentric racist little man denigrates a great man like Lewis?

Trump is so blind that he can't see how sick and petty this makes him look.....and OH that jealousy...eating away at him

Trump not going to the funeral is messaging without words to his white supporter base. They understand the message.....

Careful. Some leftist posters might sue you for swiping their bullet points reply template. Why in the hell should Trump suck up to people who publically hated his guts in life after they have kicked the bucket? Why should he be a hypocrit to assuage injured leftist feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelings? I mean something is always injuring their tender sensibilities anyway. It would be a 24/7/365 job if Trump were to even try doing that.

 

So who was disrespectful first....and for political reasons. Sorry, I may dislike trump, but he is under no obligation to attend the funeral of someone that was disrespectful towards him.

 

The criticism is not about Trump's refusal to or denial from attending the funeral.

 

So what is the criticism about? Another mountain out of a molehill? There was nothing in that interview regarding J. Lewis that was disrespectful. If anything it was non-committal.

 

I suppose I should be used to this by now, but his inability to stay on topic is staggering. His refusal to answer direct questions, sad. His narcissistic habit of bringing everything back to a discussion of himself, pathetic.

The message I get was they weren't close friends....Lewis refused to go to his Inrgiation....I thought that set the tone of their relationship....

 

So what are you all whining about?

 

He was asked if he found the man's life impressive or if he wanted to say anything about the passing of the man.

His response - which was way more critical than being "non-committal" - was to claim to not know him, but to simultaneously say he made a very big mistake by not coming to trump's inauguration and to claim that trump had done much more for black people than john lewis ever did.

That is both disrespectful and warrants criticism.

 

I'm very glad Trump decided not to show up to the viewing or funeral of John Lewis.... It would not have been appropriate.

Trump has little clue who John Lewis was, except a probable No vote for anything Trump proposed.

From what I remember, few Americans went to that inauguration....

 

So not knowing him is disrespectful?
Feeling that Lewis disrespected him by not going to his inauguration and SOTU address is disrespectful?
Feeling that he has accomplished more for the black community is disrespectful?

All that may be egotistical, but it is not disrespectful.....unless one is just digging pretty deep to support their own dislike. As I mentioned before, I dislike trump, but I have not lost my objectivity because of that dislike.

 

Context matters and here, when discussing the man right after his death, yes, it is disrespectful to claim ignorance of his accomplishments, to criticize him for not attending your inauguration, and to boast about your own dubious achievements.

 

Sounds like more whining to me.....John Lewis was a very pity man that could never accept the resultss of the 2016 election.....Trum[p has no reason to go to the funeral or say thing about him,

 

I think you are confusing "disrespect" with "lack of couth" or a lack of being "politically correct". Two different things. Saying something negative toward Lewis would be disrespectful. He did not say anything negative about his legacy. Heck, I did not even really know Lewis's accomplishments until after he passed. That does not mean I am disrespectful towards him.

The vast majority of people don't know who he is. None of my family ever heard of him. I never knew who he was and still don't other than he was some kind of black activist. Black activists are a dime a dozen. We have a regular cottage industry of them. What we really need are FEWER black activists and MORE black engineers. I have yet to run into a single black software engineer after 30 years in the business (and I have met close to a thousand software engineers thus far).
